Chevy Chase Fans Rejoice With Stellar Upgrade To Classic Comedy
These days, many film lovers have been wringing their hands about mainstream retailers such as Best Buy slowly pulling out of selling movies on physical media. Fortunately, companies like Kino Lorber have made it their business to bring us the best possible versions of classic movies, and now they have turned their attention to a film series that helped make Chevy Chase into a household name. Both Fletch and Fletch Lives are getting deluxe Blu-Ray releases that feature gorgeous 2K restorations and more special fingers than you can shake a remote control at.
Chevy Chase’s Fletch Is Back In Blu-Ray Form
If you’ve never experienced these legendary Chevy Chase films for yourself, you probably have a simple question: what is the Fletch series about, exactly? In short, Chase plays an investigative reporter who isn’t afraid to change his identity and otherwise go the extra mile in order to get to the bottom of a juicy story. The first film was successful enough to warrant a sequel (Fletch Lives), and decades later, Mad Men star Jon Hamm replaced Chevy Chase and starred in the surprisingly excellent 2021 film Confess, Fletch.
New Audio Commentary Tracks For Each Film
With the basic plot of this Chevy Chase franchise established, let’s get to the good stuff: what can fans expect from the Blu-Ray sets for Fletch and Fletch Lives? For videophiles, the biggest deal is that each movie is getting a new 2K restoration that will make them look better than ever before. Each film will also get its own brand-new audio commentary courtesy of the entertainment journalists Bryan Reesman and Max Evry.
Behind The Scenes Documentaries
Beyond that, these discs will collect some of the best supplementary materials previously filmed for these Chevy Chase movies. Fletch, for example, comes with a featurette titled Just Charge it to the Underhills: Making and Remembering Fletch, which brings back many of the actors, writers, and producers that made the movie a hit. It also includes The Disguises: From John Cocktoaston to Harry S. Truman, a shorter featurette that brings together actors, producers, and make-up artists to discuss the various onscreen disguises they cooked up for Chevy Chase.
More Chevy Chase Than You Can Handle
Fletch Lives includes a short featurette on the making of the film as well as a profile of Chase himself. This pairs well with the 1985 interview with Chevy Chase included in Fletch. Both Blu-Rays also come with remastered trailers for their respective films and TV spots to help you relive (or perhaps experience for the first time) the hype of watching this movie getting advertised on television.
Chevy Chase’s Best Movies
Honestly, we don’t want to lay it on too thick, but even if you aren’t a huge fan of Chevy Chase, these movies are worth watching for anyone who loves great films that consistently make them laugh. Plus, the movies are a powerful source of nostalgia: when people tell you that Hollywood doesn’t make movies like they did in the ‘80s, they are talking about movies like Fletch and Fletch Lives.
To see what all the fuss is about and to experience Community star Chase’s master class in comedic timing, be sure to pick up these Blu-Rays from Kino Lorber when they release on April 16.
