Charlie Hunnam is perhaps best known for his role as Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller in FX’s Sons of Anarchy, wherein the English actor’s grizzled look propelled him to the forefront of television tough guys. With over two dozen credited roles on IMDb and a leading role in an upcoming Zack Sydner project, Hunnam’s star is rising, leading many fans to imagine the actor in their dream roles. One such fan, an artist named 21XFOUR on Instagram, has taken to reimagining Charlie Hunnam as Green Arrow.
21XFOUR has created a series of art pieces in collaboration with an account under the handle @homeofdcu reimagining Charlie Hunnam in the role of Green Arrow, and fans are loving it. With over 500 followers enjoying the art, it leaves fans wondering what a rebooted Green Arrow film or series could be like if Hunnam were cast in the lead role. 21XFOUR has utilized this art style for a series of fan castings, displaying other stars such as Alan Ritchson as Shazam, David Corenswet as Superman, and even Tenet‘s John David Washington as Green Lantern.
At this rate, it won’t be long before the account has artistically redesigned the entire DCU with fan castings sure to make James Gunn pick up the phone and get in touch. We have yet to see a live-action adaptation of the character on the big screen yet, but Charlie Hunnam would be perfect for the role of Green Arrow, as seen in his dramatic acting in films such as Pacific Rim, Children of Men, and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Gunn recently revealed that Green Arrow is one of his favorite superheroes, prompting an outpouring of fan support for an upcoming film adaptation.
The hit CW series Arrow, and subsequent Arrowverse, which crosses over with several CW shows such as The Flash and Supergirl, has continued to do the character justice, as played by Stephen Amell. Though his character heroically sacrificed himself, Amell will reprise the role in the final season of The Flash. Of course, it seems unlikely that James Gunn will have any interest in crossing the CW shows into the film universe, leaving casting options such as Charlie Hunnam’s Green Arrow wide open.
With the recent news that James Gunn plans to reboot the entire DC universe in the coming years, perhaps Charlie Hunnam’s Green Arrow is the perfect place to begin. After all, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman have had a myriad of their own films, to varying degrees of critical and audience success. Rebooting the DCU franchise with lesser-known heroes such as Green Lantern and Green Arrow could be needed to kick the entire Justice League into gear.
This method has been highly successful with Marvel, as heroes such as Iron Man and The Guardians of the Galaxy weren’t household names until the MCU launched them onto the big screen. Plus, if Charlie Hunnam is available to portray Green Arrow, it would certainly drive a number of fans to show up to the box office, and if DC‘s latest films are any indication of the franchise’s future, they’ll surely need the help.
