Daredevil Star Pitches The Team-Up Movie Everyone Wants
One of the reasons that fans love Charlie Cox so much is that the Daredevil actor is just as much of a Marvel nerd as the rest of us. So it’s not much of a surprise that, at the recent Rose City Comic Con, he had a great answer when asked which character he’d like to team up with for a future film.
While implying that he’d always love to team up with Spider-Man, the final answer he gave was as surprising as it is awesome: he wants a Daredevil/Punisher movie.
Daredevil And Punisher Film?
At the convention, Charlie Cox actually fielded two related questions from two different Marvel fans.
One of them wanted to know if he’d like to be part of a “Team Red” film that joined Daredevil, Deadpool, and Spider-Man, and he simply said “I mean…” while gesturing that he would most certainly like to star alongside those two MCU heavyweights.
The second fan asked more broadly who he would like to team up with in this sprawling cinematic universe, and after hinting that Spider-Man was his answer, his final response was that “It’d be cool to do a Daredevil/Punisher film.”
Marvel Is Planning This Movie?
It’s not exactly surprising that Spider-Man played such a large part in Charlie Cox’s answer to which Marvel characters he would love to team up with in a future film. In the comics, the two characters have a rich history of teaming up with each other, and the unlikely combination of the wisecracking Spidey and the brooding Daredevil always makes for fun interactions.
Plus, as the actor implied during his convention panel, the MCU already planted the seed of their future team-up with the brief appearance of Matt Murdock as Peter Parker’s lawyer in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
A Rich History
However, as Charlie Cox seems to know, Daredevil and Punisher also have a rich history of provocative team-ups, both in Daredevil’s own show and in Marvel comics.
The right writers can always bring out the contrasting personalities that make these characters such an interesting pair.
For example, when Garth Ennis wrote Punisher, he included an amazing scene where Punisher forced Daredevil to make a choice between shooting the violent vigilante in the back of the head or letting Frank Castle gun down another criminal.
Reuniting Once Again?
The gun wasn’t actually loaded…something that Daredevil only found out when he tried to pull the trigger.
In his own way, Punisher was teaching the hero a very blunt lesson: that when you don’t kill dangerous criminals when you have the chance, you are partially responsible for their future victims (someone should really give Batman that memo).
We’d frankly love to see such debates on the topic of superhero ethics on the big screen, particularly if Charlie Cox gets to act alongside his Marvel colleague Jon Bernthal once again.
Daredevil: Born Again First
Does this mean we can expect Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in future Marvel movies? Only time will tell…both he and fans are eager for his superhero to make a proper jump to the big screen, but outside of that brief No Way Home cameo, nothing has happened.
But should Daredevil: Born Again prove to be a hit on Disney+, then the man without fear may finally get the green light for a proper cinematic debut, especially if Vincent D’Onofrio comes along for the ride.
