Channing Tatum has been attached to a Gambit movie for over half a decade. The actor was officially part of a Gambit production back in 2014 but the project continued to get postponed. Eventually, when Fox was merged with Disney, the project was canceled and everyone figured that would be the end of it all. It seemed like Channing Tatum had missed his chance to play the Cajun superhero. However, if a new rumor is to be believed, the actor might still have a chance to power up some playing cards and toss them at some bad guys.

According to We Got This Covered, there are talks about bringing Channing Tatum on as Gambit in some capacity for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We Got This Covered’s source is saying that Marvel Studios might introduce Tatum’s Gambit in one of the many multiverse projects they have in the works right now. This could act as a way for Marvel to also help lay the seeds for their eventual integration of mutants and the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We have heard some rumblings about what Marvel wants to do with the X-Men but could showing multiverse versions of the characters be the first stepping stone?

Regardless of what Marvel’s larger plans are regarding the X-Men and mutants, there is no doubt that fans would be giddy to finally see Channing Tatum as Gambit. The actor has a clear passion for the role considering he stuck with it for so long. He has gone on record with his love of the character and has explained that his upbringing around New Orleans is part of the reason he feels such an attachment to Remy LeBeau. It seems obvious that this would not just be another paycheck for him. The fact that he seems to remain devoted to the part makes us want him to get it even more.

And in all honesty, it would be thrilling to see Channing Tatum be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether it is as some multiverse iteration of Gambit or as the canonical version in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would be quite awesome for him to join the ranks of the many other prominent Marvel Cinematic Universe actors. And who knows? With the X-Men still on the horizon for the franchise, there is a really good chance that Channing Tatum could end up being one of the founding members of this version of the superhero team.

We will simply have to keep our eyes out for any more significant updates about this possibility. The prospect of Channing Tatum as Gambit has been around for nearly ten years at this point, so it is tough to get too excited. The actor has seen the role slip from his fingers in the past and that is what we are primed to believe will happen once again. Though, we do sincerely hope this is the time it sticks and we can see the mutant hero flinging energized playing cards on the big screen once again.
