These days, consumers have so many options when it comes to streaming services that companies have had to up their game to attract subscribers. Of course, the easiest way to draw in new users is to consistently churn out original content, which is something Amazon has done quite well as of late. Close on the heels of winning the rights to the holiday feature Red One, which Dwayne Johnson will headline, Deadline is reporting that the company has snagged the rights to the forthcoming thriller Red Shirt, with Channing Tatum attached to star and David Leitch (Deadpool, John Wick) on board to direct.

Amazon Studios once again participated in a massive bidding war to secure the rights to the movie, with Channing Tatum being the first and only confirmed member of the cast so far. Several streamers and studios attempted to outbid the company, including Paramount, Netflix, Sony, and Universal, in what was reportedly one of the biggest sales of the year. The upcoming film is based on an original pitch from Simon Kinberg, who has written and produced several X-Men titles for 20th Century Fox.

Although plot details for Red Shirt are being kept heavily under wraps, the film is being described as an international spy thriller. In addition to directorial duties, Leitch will also produce alongside Kelly McCormick under their 87 North production company. Channing Tatum is also serving as a producer through his Free Association production banner, along with his partners Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan.

Channing Tatum recently appeared in Paramount’s action comedy The Lost City, alongside Sandra Bullock, and Daniel Radcliffe. The film earned nearly $200 million globally and was a major hit with both critics and everyday audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a score of 79% from critics based on 263 reviews and a score of 83% from audiences.

Before that, Channing Tatum headlined and co-directed the heart-warming feature Dog, which follows a former Army Ranger who races down the Pacific Coast with a Belgian Malinois to get to a fellow soldier’s funeral on time. Although not the blockbuster The Lost City was, the film still pulled in $84 million from a budget of $15 million. Ryder McLaughlin, Aavi Hass, Luke Forbes, Donovan Hunter, and Devin White also star in the picture.

Up next, the 42-year-old actor will appear in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, which will serve as the final entry in the wildly successful franchise that made Channing Tatum a household name. The film’s director, Steven Soderbergh, recently revealed that he plans to conclude the series in a big way, with the sequel’s final act featuring a massive dance sequence lasting more than 30 minutes. Additionally, the titular character will be in a committed partnership in the forthcoming installment, with a character being portrayed by Salma Hayek.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance is scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 10, 2023, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Further out, Channing Tatum is slated to appear in Pussy Island, which marks Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut. He’s also been tapped to star in Project Artemis and Wingmen.
