Deadpool and Wolverine was already coming out of the box as a highly anticipated crossover once it was revealed Hugh Jackman was returning to play Logan in the movie. However, since that time, more and more details have continued to amp up the excitement by revealing even more cameos that fans might be able to look forward to. And the latest rumor would be a real crowd-pleaser, as it would mean we could be getting to see Channing Tatum finally play Gambit on screen!

Channing Tatum As Gambit

Channing Tatum Gambit

For those not in the know, Channing Tatum has been getting teased to play Gambit for over a decade now. Tatum was originally going to have his own solo movie as the character starting in 2014, but a number of unfortunate factors nixed that idea.

For one, the solo Wolverine films were not doing so well critically, especially X-Men Origins which marked Gambit’s cinematic debut (albeit not played by Tatum).

So if a character as popular as Wolverine was struggling, it was reasonable for producers to have doubts about Gambit. Plus then the rights to the X-Men films got bought up by Disney, immediately stopping any current X-Men film plans that had been in the works.

Fans Hated Taylor Kitsch Version

Even if it was just for a brief cameo, Channing Tatum’s appearance as Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverine would elate fans. Much like the X-Men Origins depiction of Deadpool, fans really hated the Taylor Kitsch version of Gambit.

There would be some great humor potential for the fourth-wall-breaking Deadpool to comment on Tatum finally getting to play the part.

No Trailer Confirmation

The rumors of Channing Tatum showing up as Gambit really started due to some recent social media banter between Tatum and Hugh Jackman.

Afterward, known leaker GWGST claimed to have knowledge about Deadpool and Wolverine and that Tatum would appear in the movie as Gambit.

Obviously, the trailers so far are not confirming that, but fans are still having fun speculating and theorizing on the possibility.

Embracing The Multiverse

It is not out of the realm of possibility that Channing Tatum will appear as Gambit since we know Deadpool and Wolverine will embrace the multiverse-style storytelling that many other Marvel films have been embracing lately.

We know for a fact that there will be multiple different versions of Deadpool in the movie, including Babypool, Dogpool, and a version of Deadpool that is just a sentient head.

Deadpool has also acknowledged the different versions of characters in the past, such as commenting on how Professor X has been played by both Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy.

Where Has Gambit Been?

Honestly, at this point, Gambit is probably the most popular X-Men character without a live-action version that fans approve of. Nightcrawler is commonly considered one of the best parts of the second X-Men movie. Hugh Jackman has always been praised as Wolverine.

Deadpool And Wolverine Surprises

And Ryan Reynolds is beloved as Deadpool. If Channing Tatum did appear as Gambit and did well in the role, he could finally bring the character to life in a way that would be fondly remembered by fans.

If fans enjoyed him enough, maybe Marvel would consider finally making that Gambit movie after all this time.

Deadpool and Wolverine will be in theaters on July 26, 2024.
