Chainsaw Man Movie Happening, Here’s All We Know
Fans of Chainsaw Man got quite the treat during the Jump Festa 2024 anime convention. It was revealed that MAPPA will release a movie that adapts the popular Reze Arc from the manga.
The movie will be set right after the events of the Katana Man arc and will follow protagonist Denji’s relationship with the explosive and mysterious Reze. There isn’t an official release date for the film yet.
No Confirmed Release Date
The announcement of the Chainsaw Man movie did not coincide with news as to when we can expect to see the highly anticipated second season of the popular anime series.
The anime’s first season aired in 2022, and fans have been waiting for news ever since. Hopefully, we’ll get some additional news on the second season as more news about the movie comes out.
Raising Some Eyebrows
The announcement of Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc comes at an interesting time for Studio MAPPA, which is best known for its work on Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen.
The company was recently accused of fostering a toxic work environment for animators, with anonymous sources alleging intense schedules, inadequate compensation, and rapid turnaround times for work.
The announcement of the movie so soon after the adaptation of the Jujutsu Kaisen Shibuya Arc is certainly raising some eyebrows.
No Director Or Production Team Yet
Fans were already concerned with Studio MAPPA’s alleged harsh working conditions, and the fact that the studio seems to be jumping right into another major project certainly has drawn some new concerns for the animators working there.
With that being said, details of the director and who will be on the production team have yet to be revealed.
The social media and public outcry in light of the alleged toxic work environment may have caused Studio MAPPA to make a shift behind the scenes.
Lax Production Schedules
With Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc lacking a release date or an announcement for Season 2, it’s possible that the production schedules for these projects could be a bit more lax.
Meanwhile, the ongoing Shibuya Arc adaptation for Jujutsu Kaisen has been getting a ton of critical praise for its dynamic and incredibly engaging animation.
However, the fact that the season may possibly be affecting the physical and mental health of animators has left a sour taste in the mouths of fans.
Success With Jujutsu Kaisen
Studio MAPPA previously found a ton of success with the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film it released, which it likely is hoping to replicate with the release of Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 was a critical and commercial hit, bringing in a ton of money and getting praise for its animation.
However, one animator came forth with the shocking accusation that the film was made in only four months.
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc
Four months would be an absolutely insane amount of time for any movie to be made, much less an animated film with animation of the caliber of Jujutsu Kaisen.
If this accusation is true, hopefully, the same schedule won’t be followed for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc. Fans have waited this long for more Chainsaw Man, so they can certainly wait a little longer.
