Captain America: Brave New World Gets New Writer And More Reshoots, Marvel Trying To Save A Failure?
Now that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is preparing to swim onto screens, with all of its reshoots and reconfigurations a thing of the past, there’s another superhero movie that’s headed into a heavy reshoot schedule. According to Deadline, the Anthony Mackie-led production, Captain America: Brave New World is rethinking most of its fight scenes, and bringing in a new writer to reformat the entire film.
While there could be many reasons behind the creative team’s decision to scrap a handful of scenes, one likely cause may be due to early test screening reactions.
Test Screenings
Early reactions can truly make or break a film as, as soon as they’re reported, future audiences no longer have a biased outlook on the movie. Of course, this can change after they sit down in cinemas and watch for themselves. A case-and-point example can be seen in that of DC’s The Flash which, despite impressive first reactions, was a major box office flop for the studio.
But, with Captain America: Brave New World bringing in a new writer to better flesh out the story and even insert new scenes, test screenings could be a major factor in this decision.
Bringing In Moon Knight Writer
So, who’s the studio bringing in to help them out in such a pinch? Moon Knight alum, Matthew Orton will be stepping up to the plate to take a swing at rescuing Captain America: Brave New World from – what’s being seen at this point – as total destruction.
The film is set to release on February 14, 2025, with cameras planned to return to set and begin rolling in the spring and into the summer. Every Marvel production has faced at least some sort of reshoot schedule like this one, with the timeline being anywhere from days to weeks, depending on the amount of work that needs to be done.
The Rocky Road
Captain America: Brave New World has hit plenty of road bumps on its journey to become what will be the fourth title in the standalone Captain America franchise. The project was first titled Captain America: New World Order before the production team realized the political implications that such a name could have on their film. Then, like many other movies coming from the MCU, Brave New World faced a slew of setbacks during the months of the writers’ and actors’ strike, bumping its release date.
The Cast
But, things seem finally on course for the film that, along with Anthony Mackie (Twisted Metal) as Sam Wilson aka Captain America will also star Liv Tyler (Empire Records), Tim Blake Nelson (Minority Report), Harrison Ford (the Indiana Jones franchise), Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick), Carl Lumbly (Doctor Sleep), Shira Haas (Unorthodox), and Rosa Salazar (American Horror Story: Murder House).
Falcon And The Winter Soldier
Captain America: Brave New World will be Anthony Mackie’s first standalone film after his character, Sam Wilson, picked up the shield of Chris Evans’ Captain America following the events of Avengers: Endgame. In the between time, Mackie and Sebastian Stan starred in the Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which saw Sam struggle to come to terms with his new moniker and duty. By the end of the series, Sam was more than ready to take on the enemies of Earth as the leader of the Avengers.
