Captain America 4 Changes Its Name To A Sci-Fi Classic
Marvel has changed the name of the next Captain America film to Captain America: Brave New World.
Marvel had second thoughts on the title for the latest installment in the Captain America franchise and, according to Variety, the studio has officially made the move to shift the fourth film’s name from New World Order to Brave New World. Fans were a bit confused when the original title was released as the term “New World Order” has ties to a conspiracy theory that centers around the creation of a totalitarian world government. Along with the naming shift, the studio also released a behind-the-scenes image of leading stars Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford enjoying a sunny day on set.
Not only does the title reveal good news for future audiences who were wondering what Marvel may have been pointing at with the original name, but we’re also happy to announce that the film is still on for a release date of May 3, 2024. The image released sees Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford smiling and trading compliments under a tent. While Mackie appears to be in full Captain America garb, it looks like Ford is taking a break from his costume for the day.
Following the events of Disney+ and Marvel’s series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which itself was a continuation of the story left open from Avengers: Endgame, Captain America: Brave New World will see Anthony Mackie continue to carry the shield as the newly appointed Captain America. After Chris Evans ended his time as Cap at the end of Endgame, Mackie’s Sam Wilson gladly picked up the shield and swore to protect all of mankind.
Directed by Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) in his Marvel filmmaking debut, Captain America: Brave New World will also see Harrison Ford as the President of the United States, Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who will be taking over the role for William Hurt who sadly passed away in 2022. Also included in the cast are Danny Ramirez, Tim Blake Nelson, Carl Lumbly, Liv Tyler, and Shira Haas with appearances from Seth Rollins and Xosha Roquemore. While no other MCU names have been announced for cameos at this time, you never know just who could show up to help Captain America with his latest fight.
As of right now, no plot details surrounding Captain America 4 have been released but we can safely presume that Sam Wilson will be trading blows with some new baddies. After the Chris Evans-led films ended with 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, a new story will be told with Mackie stepping up to the plate and throwing the shield as one of Earth’s mightiest heroes.
What we do know is that the film falls in Marvel’s Phase 5 and comes after The Marvels but before Thunderbolts. We can also gather that Captain America: Brave New World will handle part of the storyline of Jonathan Majors’ villain, Kang the Conqueror, as he’s been teased as the MCU’s next big bad. Along with The Marvels and Thunderbolts, audiences have a slew of other films and shows to look forward to during the rest of Phase 5, with titles like Secret Invasion, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Loki Season 2, Daredevil: Born Again, and Blade also on their way to a screen near you.
