Captain America 4 Will Be About Something You’ve Already Seen And Are Tired Of
Like many other Marvel films, Captain America 4 has found itself with a new release date, forcing audiences to wait even longer to see Anthony Mackie’s Cap receive his first full-length feature. On top of the delayed release, a new report coming from Twitter’s CanWeGetSomeToast (via Cosmic Book News) reveals that the plot for the new film is being pulled out of the recycling bin. In an upsetting turn of events, the rumored storyline doesn’t sound like a fresh start for the franchise at all but instead very reminiscent of Captain America: The First Avenger.
Captain America 4 will be Anthony Mackie’s first big-screen outing with the shield, but the plot will be very familiar.
According to the source, Captain America 4 will catch up with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, who picked up the shield and duties of Chris Evans’s Cap following the events of Avengers: Endgame. The movie will allegedly see Sam effectively being “benched” as President Ross doesn’t believe in his abilities on the battlefield, seeing him as more of a talking head for the government and superheroes everywhere. Of course, Sam sees things very differently and is ready to fight for his well-deserved place at the top of the Avengers pyramid.
Jumping on the news of Captain America 4’s rumored plot, fans were quick to point out that it runs eerily parallel to that of Captain America: The First Avenger. In that first standalone flick, Chris Evans’s hero bumped heads with U.S. Senator Brandt after he’s been tasked with dressing in a silly costume and delivering a little pep to the brave troops fighting the war. This is until the course changes, and Cap gets involved in the battle, proving himself to be the country’s most valuable asset and not just a publicity stunt.
Should the Captain America 4 plot go down the way it’s been rumored to, audiences could be in for a world of disappointment from what’s been slated as a fresh start for the superhero franchise.
At this point, the rumors swirling around the plot of Captain America 4 are just that – rumors, but CanWeGetSomeToast does point out some other interesting parallels between a handful of recent MCU productions. The idea of “benching” a main character has come up time and time again as of late, with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury receiving similar treatment in Secret Invasion. And, to make things even stranger, the account pointed out that Sam Wilson already dealt with this storyline in the series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier – the show that would ultimately see him starting his tenure as Cap.
Should the Captain America 4 plot go down the way it’s been rumored to, audiences could be in for a world of disappointment from what’s been slated as a fresh start for the superhero franchise. The feature – formerly titled Captain America: Brave New World – will also star the likes of Harrison Ford, Tim Blake Nelson, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Shira Haas, Seth Rollins, Liv Tyler, and Xosha Roquemore.

Directed by Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox), Captain America 4 is set to be another title in the studio’s Phase 5 alongside others, including Deadpool 3, Thunderbolts, and Blade. As of right now, it’s set for an opening on July 26, 2024, but with the recent setbacks, there’s a good chance that audiences will need to wait a little longer to see Anthony Mackie’s first feature-length turn as Captain America.
