Captain America 4 Is Changing Its Title?
Captain America 4 is dropping the New World Order subtitle because of its conspiracy connection.
Audiences can expect Captain America 4 to hit theaters on May 4, 2024, but it will not be entitled Captain America: New World Order, as previously planned. The film, which will star Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, and Liv Tyler, needs to change its name due to political reasons, says The Direct.
Choosing to scrap the name New World Order is a good call since it refers to a classic conspiracy theory. Believers of this theory think that there is a secret, powerful elite group that rules the world under one all-empowering government, similar to the belief in the Illumanti. The name New World Order was also the title of the 90’s WWE wrestling team made up of “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, and Kevin Nash.
Either way, neither of the terms bode well as a title for the new Captain America movie since the main superhero prides himself on the honest American dream. The plot for Captain America 4 has been intentionally kept under wraps, with little being leaked to the public, but here is what we know so far.
Chris Evans will not be reprising his role as Captain America. His character, Steve Rogers, made his retirement clear at the end of Avengers: Endgame, having been able to live out his dream life with his longtime love Peggy Carter. The actor is currently working on the new Scott Pilgrim anime series and has two movies coming out later this year: Pain Hustlers and Red One.
Anthony Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson, will be taking over as the new Captain America in Captain America 4. After receiving the iconic shield from Chris Evans at the end of Avengers: Endgame, audiences then saw Anthony Mackie step into the leadership role in the Disney+ TV series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. There are some rumors that Anthony Mackie’s co-star and recurring Marvel character Bucky (played by Sebastian Stan), will be involved in Captain America 4.
Newcomers to the Captain America cast include Harrison Ford and Liv Tyler. The Indiana Jones star will play the role of Thaddeus ”Thunderbolt” Ross, a US Army general who is typically the nemesis of the Hulk. Liv Tyler will be reprising her role as Betty Ross from 2008’s Incredible Hulk, where she starred alongside Edward Norton. Her character is the daughter of Thaddeus Ross and the love interest of Bruce Banner.
With so many Hulk-related characters, fans are anticipating seeing the giant green superhero in Captain America 4. Mark Ruffalo previously played the character of Bruce Banner/Hulk for ten years, most recently appearing in a few episodes of the TV series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. With Liv Tyler reprising her role, following the appearance of Tim Roth in She-Hulk, and Tim Blake Nelson coming back as Samuel Sterns, Incredible Hulk is now more relevant to Phase 5 of the MCU than it ever was to Phase 1.
While the studio debates what to name the new Captain America movie, they can always go with Captain America 4. If so, it will be reminiscent of the NFL’s decision to use the boring team name, the Washington Football Team, when they were trying to come up with an unoffensive, non-political name for the football team.
