It was just recently confirmed that a fourth Captain America film is in the works and if there were any doubts as to whether Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier/White Wolf will star in the film, We Got This Covered has reported that the actor will indeed play the co-lead in the film. If the news is indeed authentic, then Captain America 4 will be the seventh MCU film he will star in.
Even though the first three Captain America films, Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America and The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and even the recently concluded Disney+ series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier were more or less focused on the star-spangled superhero and his legacy, Captain America 4 will reportedly see Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes as the co-lead.
As per the report, the actor will once again co-star alongside his The Falcon and The Winter Soldier co-star, Anthony Mackie. Given the note on which the Disney+ series ends on—Sam and Bucky over their differences as well as misunderstandings—Captain America 4 will see more of their budding friendship as Bucky continues to help his new friend in assimilating to his role as Captain America.
The news about Marvel Studios working on Captain America 4 was announced just days ago in an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter. As per the news report, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier showrunner and head writer, Malcolm Spellman will be making the next Captain America film for Marvel Studios. He will be co-writing the script with Dalan Musson, who was also a staff writer on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Though the cast for Captain America 4 hasn’t been announced, guessing its lead is a no-brainer if the recently released finale episode of Falcon and The Winter Soldier is anything to go by. We saw Sam finally win over his hesitations and doubts to pick up the shield and be what Steve Rogers wanted him to be- Captain America. By the looks of it, the public and the government have also accepted him with his new moniker and Bucky has never been prouder of his new buddy.
We already know that Chris Evans is not returning to wield the shield anymore after he handed over his mantle to Sam at the end of Avengers: Endgame, so that leaves the former Falcon in the new role as the show has finally answered who will carry the mantle from now on. But there have been rumors of the actor’s return to the MCU in some other role, maybe as Captain Hydra or a different version of some other superhero from another universe. But whether he will return in Captain America 4 is yet to be confirmed.
As for the story of Captain America 4, the history of Captain America is pretty diverse in the comics, with many, including Bucky Barnes, donning different versions of the star-spangled suit. And of course, there will always be more villains to tackle and as per the ending of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Sam already has an adversary to handle.
As of now, no director has been announced for Captain America 4 and Marvel Studios, with the usual display of keeping new information under tight wraps, has made no further announcement.
