If you’re a fan of action blockbusters loaded with big fights and even bigger laughs, you definitely need to check out the 2022 film Bullet Train. The movie, which is currently streaming on Hulu, packs an exciting adventure, an A-list cast, and a few mind-blowing set-pieces that will surely have you leaping out of your chair. Audiences flocked to catch Bullet Train in theaters, accounting for a global box office turnout of over $239 million against an estimated production budget of $90 million, though it’s even better enjoyed at home, where you can pause and rewind the scenes that cause your jaw to hit the floor.

The Making Of

Bullet Train was originally developed by The Equalizer filmmaker Antoine Fuqua, as a straightforward action thriller based on the 2010 novel of the same name. At a certain point in the pre-production process, Fuqua stepped back into a producer role, handing the reins to Deadpool 2 filmmaker David Leitch.

Long before Leitch was helming films as a director, he got his start as a Hollywood stunt man, and longtime collaborator of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. David Leitch’s trademark combination of over-the-top action and hilarious gags helped to shape the final product of Bullet Train into the film we know and love today.

The Story

The narrative of Bullet Train centers on an eclectic group of killers, gangsters, and criminals as they board a high-speed rail in Tokyo, each with different goals in mind, but a shared final destination.

The train’s final stop is Kyoto, where a vicious crime boss known as The White Death awaits anyone bold and lucky enough to survive the trip. Unbeknownst to most of the train’s passengers, these killers have each been carefully selected by fate to board the train, as nearly all of them have crossed paths before.

Ladybug

Most of the film is told through the eyes of “Ladybug,” a special operative tasked with retrieving a briefcase full of cash that has been stowed onboard the bullet train.

Haunted by a recent string of missions gone horribly awry, Ladybug has turned to therapy and taken on the lifestyle of a pacifist, making him a hilarious protagonist for a film rife with murder and senseless violence.

Things heat up even more for the well-meaning agent when he is mistaken for another operative who was responsible for the death of a civilian, and attacked by the civilian’s widow.

The Cast

Brad Pitt leads the cast of Bullet Train as Ladybug, alongside a stacked cast of A-listers, including Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon, Sandra Bullock, Bad Bunny, and Atlanta co-stars Brian Tyree Henry and Zazie Beetz.

There are also a few big name cameos thrown into the mix that I won’t spoil here, though suffice is to say, the film contains numerous scenes that will have you reenacting the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing at the TV meme.
