Bruce Campbell is one of those actors who knows how to own any role he takes on. For fans, it’s probably a pretty difficult task to pick their favorite Campbell role, but for Bruce, it doesn’t seem like it’s much of a problem at all. In a recent interview with Game Informer, he was asked to name his favorite character from his career. Instead of just providing fans with one answer, he rattled off a whole list. Which is perfect for those who might not have seen all of the films or shows that Bruce considers his best.
In the interview, he listed Ash, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., Bubba Ho-Tep, Autolycus, Jack of All Trades, and Burn Notice. Some of these are Campbell’s biggest roles, while others are much more obscure properties that would probably be worth a look if Bruce Campbell’s taste is anything to go off of. He of course listed Ash Williams first, as The Evil Dead franchise is undoubtedly a fan-favorite and apparently Bruce-favorite series. Next was Brisco County Jr., which is an early 90s show where Bruce starred as a cowboy. Bubba Ho-Tep references the time Campbell played Elvis Presley, in a movie where Elvis is living in a retirement home after replacing himself with an impersonator. Elvis has to protect the retirement home from the return of an ancient mummy. He capped off the list with a few TV roles where he played Autolycus in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess, Jack of All Trades where he played a secret agent, and Burn Notice where he played Sam Axe.
For fans of Bruce Campbell, this is a veritable feast of roles to rewatch or check out for the first time. If Campbell considers these shows and movies his best roles, who are we to disagree? Fans of Campbell won’t have to wait long to see him again on the silver screen. As you may or may not know, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is directed by Sam Raimi, who just can’t resist casting Bruce for roles in just about every film he makes. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seems to be no exception, but Campbell is being coy about his role. In interviews, he says that he’s not sure if his material made the cut into the final movie. Then again, he also said that Benedict Cumberbatch probably doesn’t know if the made the final cut either. Clearly, Bruce is having a little fun with the press. Either way, no one is for certain what his role could be in the upcoming film, but speculation is running rampant as usual. Some fans even think that it’s Campbell could be playing a variant of Mysterio, which would be a great nod to Sam Raimi’s previous Marvel trilogy with the Tobey Macquire-led Spider-Man movies, since Campbell was supposedly in talks to play the master of illusions if a fourth movie was made.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6, whether Bruce Campbell will be making an appearance or not. Until then, you can check out the awesome list of films and shows that Campbell gifted fans.
