Brie Larson has been on something of an extended hiatus from her role as Carol Danvers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But that won’t be for long with The Marvels now just about a year away from hitting the big screen. It will be a much-celebrated return for the character and the movie is likely setting up as a torch-passing moment for Captain Marvel to another new character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Brie Larson celebrated The Marvels being just a year away with a simple picture on Instagram, one that let everyone know she’s getting back into character.
The Instagram post by Brie Larson was posted on February 17th, marking exactly a year until The Marvels hits the big screen. It’s a simple picture of the on-set seating for the actress, clearly labeled as “Carol Danvers” the alter-ego for Captain Marvel in the MCU. While the movie has reportedly finished filming after a number of delays, there is still a chance the studio is working on additional aspects of the flick with the timeline still pretty far off in the future. Check out what Brie Larson had to post on Instagram:
The Marvels will have Brie Larson reprising her Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel role last seen at the end of The Avengers: Endgame. And it’s now been three years since her solo movie first hit the big screen. This next movie is set to follow up the timeline after Endgame though specific plot points around the movie are currently being kept mostly under wraps. We aren’t sure exactly where this story will head, likely off Earth before it is all said and done, but there are some pieces of the casting that point to how things will go for Danvers and company.
That’s because along with Brie Larson, The Marvels will also include Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/ Ms. Marvel. This character will first be introduced in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel which is set to debut at some point this year. The character will apparently start as a big fan of Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel and will have powers of her own. That series will act as an origin story with the two eventually meeting in The Marvels (or maybe even in the series). And there is some chance that Kamala Khan takes over the Captain Marvel role before it’s all said and done.
Brie Larson has kept it mostly quiet on the big screen over the last few years, starring in Endgame and then having a role in 2019s Just Mercy. But the post-pandemic timeline hasn’t seen her with many major roles. That’s set to change with The Marvels and a couple of other higher-profile projects in the works. She’s also starring in the series Lessons in Chemistry about a scientist in the 1960s who’s forced out of a job when she gets pregnant. And she also has a new, unscripted series coming to Disney+ as well. So big things are in store and it won’t be long until we get Carol Danvers back in our lives.
