Brie Larson will star in a new Netflix psychological thriller titled The Mind’s Eye, potentially to be directed by Smile’s Parker Finn, according to our trusted and proven sources. The Marvel star seems to be building a strong collaborative relationship with the streaming platform, with this being the second project we have reported her to be working on with Netflix. Considering that Brie Larson has not been in a starring role since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, it appears she is ready to get back to audiences in a big way soon.

The Mind’s Eye will feature Brie Larson as a woman who finds herself developing telekinetic abilities, though it is unclear whether this is the result of some kind of scientific experiment or an innate ability. However it is that the MCU star finds herself having the ability to make things fly around with her mind (or eye, as it were), it seems that she will have to confront dark forces that seek to control her.

In many ways, the plot of this particular upcoming Netflix Brie Larson movie sounds like one of Stephen King’s lesser efforts. A woman developing terrifying mental powers and being pursued by malevolent forces maps onto the plot of Firestarter pretty easily, which was made into the somewhat successful 1984 film starring Drew Barrymore and the decidedly not successful 2022 remake with Zac Efron.

While Brie Larson has been confirmed as the lead of The Mind’s Eye, the directorial role appears to be still somewhat up in the air. It would be a pretty massive step up for Parker Finn to direct a Netflix movie starring one of the biggest actors in the world (and an Academy Award winner, at that), particularly given that he has made only one feature film so far.

On the other hand, that feature film was a box-office smash on a level rarely seen these days, so it is not surprising that Netflix (and Brie Larson) would give Finn a shot. His horror film Smile (which he wrote and directed, based on his earlier short film Laura Hasn’t Slept) grossed a staggering $217 million off a budget of $17 million, in large part due to an innovative viral marketing campaign that stuck creepily smiling people in the background of events like televised baseball games.

In addition to The Mind’s Eye, Brie Larson will star in an action spy thriller titled The Agent for Netflix, in which she plays an expert CIA agent tasked with taking down an international criminal organization. Between those two movies and her return to the MCU with The Marvels, Larson should have a lot on her plate soon. That does not even count her upcoming role in Fast X, in which she will play the daughter of Kurt Russell’s spymaster character Mr. Nobody and her Apple TV+ series Lessons in Chemistry, in which she will play a scientist in the 1960s who finds herself hosting a televised cooking program. Get ready for a whole lot of Brie, soon.
