Brie Larson will eventually be back as Captain Marvel, though it might be a little while before we see her don her superhero tights once again. But when she does, there is the possibility that her return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe could come with a gargantuan payday that will be on for the record books.
Insider Daniel Richtman is reporting that Brie Larson will be paid “over $15 million” to come back for Captain Marvel 2. If this scoop is true, it would be the largest paycheck any actress has ever received for a superhero movie. Considering that Captain Marvel bears the namesake of her company, it is not too wild to imagine that Marvel Studios wants to do whatever they can to ensure Larson comes back for another entry in the Captain Marvel franchise.
It certainly sounds like Disney is fully committed to Brie Larson. In addition to this new scoop regarding her potentially record-setting Captain Marvel 2 payday, we have also heard reports that Disney is looking to have her headline a future Star Wars project. Between that and this new report, she could be looking at an enormous windfall of cash headed into her bank account. Not to mention that having her be a star in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars franchise would raise her celebrity profile to even higher standards.
As of now, the only project Brie Larson has officially listed on her IMDb page is Captain Marvel 2. If she does end up taking the upcoming Star Wars project as well, her schedule could fill up mighty quick. But, it could also be part of her endgame (pun intended) for her career. Doing these large studio projects can help fund her other artistic efforts. She directed and produced her first feature film, Unicorn Store, back in 2017 and could possibly be more interested n pursuing those outlets in the film business. Taking some big paychecks from Disney will help ensure Brie Larson’s freedom to work on other less high-profile projects.
It is going to be interesting to see exactly how Captain Marvel 2 factors into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 4 is going to be dealing with a whole bunch of multiverse shenanigans in the next few projects – WandaVision, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Spider-Man 3 – but it seems like those three projects will sort of be their own trilogy as far as what Marvel Studios has in store for a grander multiverse story. Will Captain Marvel 2 feel the effects of the multiverse storyline in Phase 4? Or will it be a more self-contained story?
Captain Marvel 2 will be hitting theaters on November 11, 2022. And it sounds like Brie Larson will be smiling all the way to the bank when it does. Will she end up becoming the highest-paid woman in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe? And will she go the route of Robert Downey Jr. and become too expensive to afford after a certain point? Only time will tell.
