Brie Larson Was Scared Of Playing One Character In Her Career
Brie Larson says she was worried about what the fame of playing the MCU's Captain Marvel would bring.
Brie Larson is more than capable of taking on any role — from prestige dramas to major action films, but that doesn’t mean she’s always ready for them. That was the case with her biggest role as the MCU‘s Captain Marvel, as she told Harper’s Bazaar “I was scared of what would happen to me,” talking about how the fame that came with it might prevent her from being able to be a normal person in public. In the end, she decided to take the role and the rest is history (via the The Hollywood Reporter).
Brie Larson first appeared as Carol Danvers in 2019’s Captain Marvel, which was the first MCU film led by a female superhero. The movie was a hit and cemented Larson as a key part of the MCU while also setting up Captain Marvel as one of the franchise’s most powerful and important characters. She would return to the role in Avengers: Endgame, where she played a major part in taking down Thanos and his army.
We’ll be seeing Brie Larson put on the Captain Marvel suit once again when she returns for the sequel The Marvels, which is set to hit theaters on November 10, 2023. The Marvels will see Larson’s Carol Danvers teaming up with Iman Vellani‘s Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau. The film is directed by Nia DaCosta and will also star Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton, and Park Seo-joon.
Brie Larson’s hesitations about entering the MCU are certainly understandable, and she’s not the first actor to have hesitations. While joining the major franchise certainly has its benefits, it can also tie actors up in various ways. In addition to catapulting you into superstardom and potentially removing some of your civilian anonymity, signing up to play a leading hero also means you’re typically signed up for multiple films.
This is the case with Brie Larson, who we know will be appearing in The Marvels, but who will likely also be showing up in some of the upcoming Avengers films. With Captain Marvel being one of the most recognizable and powerful characters left in the Avengers lineup, it would make sense to see her in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Larson hasn’t given any indication that she would be done after The Marvels, so there are likely more Carol Danvers to come.
While we wait for Brie Larson’s next turn as Captain Marvel, we can also look forward to seeing her join another major franchise when she appears in the next Fast & Furious movie. Larson is set to play a new character named Tess in Fast X alongside other newcomers like Jason Momoa, Daniela Melchior, Rita Moreno, and Alan Ritchson. Fast X is set to be the first in a two-part finale for the long-running film franchise, so we can likely expect to see Larson in the next film as well.
You can see Brie Larson in Fast X when it hits theaters on May 19. For the latest MCU movie, you can still catch Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania in theaters. Stay tuned for more news on Larson and the MCU.
