There is some good news and some bad news for fans of the hit Netflix series, Bridgerton. A major role has been recast for the upcoming third season of the series. That is certainly the band news, however, the third season is happening. That is the good news, and production is meant to start this summer. That could mean that the new season will air sometime early next year. However, Hannah Dodd is set to take over the role of Francesca Bridgerton, who was previously portrayed by Ruby Stokes.
Ruby Stokes has been busy as of late, especially on Netflix. She is the current lead for the series, Lockwood & Co, which is one of the main reasons why she has been recast. Stokes also took umbrage with the fact that her character had not appeared in the series much at all, leaving the window open for Dodd to come in. Francesca had apparently only showed up twice in the first season of Bridgerton. She also only appeared in a few episodes for season two as well, leaving Stokes wanting more for the part. There is a running joke amongst the community of the series that Francesca has been absent, however, she does have her own novel. Those novels are what the series is based on, and Netflix might be working toward that fact for a later season.
Hannah Dodd being cast in the role might also signify that Netflix is going to be giving the character much more screentime, which wouldn’t make sense, considering that seems to be the issue that Ruby Stokes had with the part. However, it could have been that the actress was being too vocal about this fact, and it was just better for both parties to move on. That is just speculation, but it could be true. Bridgerton will now continue with Dodd taking over as Francesca. It is not often well-received when a character is recast in a series, but it could be fine with fans. She was only featured a handful of times, so some might not even remember what the original actress looked like in the grand scheme of things.
Hannah Dodd has held many roles before being selected for Bridgerton. She has appeared in several shows that include Harlots, Find Me in Paris, and Anatomy of a Scandal. She also appeared in Eternals as Sandra. Dodd has a working relationship with Netflix as well, as she is set to appear alongside Millie Bobby Brown in Enola Holmes 2.
Hannah Dodd certainly has a full slate of acting opportunities coming her way. If she is well-received as the new Francesca Bridgerton, she may be seeing an entire season that is dedicated to her character. That is certainly the case for the novels, so it could be what is the plan for the future of this romantic drama on Netflix. Bridgerton Season 2 aired on Netflix on March 22 and has been met with good critic acceptance and audience reviews. Hopefully, the third season can continue this trend and the show won’t be randomly canceled by the streaming platform.
