Netflix has released new photos from the second season of Bridgerton ahead of its March 25th premiere. The images give fans a small glimpse into the upcoming season, which will focus on the romance between Lord Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma, whose family recently joined the Ton after moving from India. Hopefully, the new storyline will lessen the sting of Rege-Jean Page’s departure from the show.
According to Netflix, the focus will shift to a new Bridgerton sibling in season two, just like in the books the streaming series is based on. As such, the new photos also feature fan-favorite best friends, Penelope (aka Lady Whistledown) and Eloise. There’s the first glimpse of Daphne, without her Duke. Without Rege-Jean Page it’s unknown how often she’ll appear in season two, and this photo seems to prove she’ll at least be there. It isn’t yet known how the Duke’s absence will be explained in Bridgerton’s new season. Another photo sees Kate showing off some hunting skills, and Queen Charlotte engaging in her favorite pastime – reading the latest Lady Whistledown gossip. There’s also a shot of the new Sharma sisters.
Created by Chris Van Dusen, Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn’s novels set in the competitive world of Regency-era London’s ton during the season when debutantes are presented at court. Produced by Shonda Rhimes, the series debuted on Netflix in December 2020. The eight-episode first season was met with positive reviews and became the most-watched series on the streaming site at the time of its premiere. It remains the second most-watched series by total watch time on the platform.
Fans were disappointed when the Bridgerton star announced that he was leaving the series. Especially since The Duke of Hastings played such a big role in the first season. To have Rege-Jean Page’s presence wiped from the screen was something of a travesty. Speaking about his exit the actor said it felt like a limited series where he got to come in, contribute his bit, and then the Bridgerton family would roll on. And the new season will do just that with Jonathan Bailey taking the lead.
The second season of Bridgerton will follow Lord Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest Bridgerton sibling and Viscount, as he sets out to find a suitable wife. Driven by his duty to uphold the family name, Anthony’s search for a debutante who meets his impossible standards seems ill-fated until Kate and her younger sister Edwina Sharma arrive from India. When Anthony begins to court Edwina, Kate discovers the true nature of his intentions – that true love is not high on his priority list.
Kate then decides to do everything in her power to stop the union. But in doing so, Kate and Anthony Bridgerton’s verbal sparring matches only bring them closer together, complicating matters on both sides. Across Grosvenor Square, the Featheringtons must welcome the newest heir to their estate while Penelope continues to navigate the ton whilst keeping her deepest secret from the people closest to her.
In April 2021, the show’s creator revealed that Bridgerton had been renewed for a third and fourth season. The announcement was made via is Twitter account.
