Bradley Cooper’s Most Intense Movie Is Trending On Streaming
Bradley Cooper's award-winning directorial debut, A Star is Born, is currently climbing the streaming charts in multiple countries.
A Star is Born, the 2018 musical romantic drama starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, has shot up the charts on HBO Max. According to streaming tracking site FlixPatrol, the award-winning film has become HBO Max’s third-most popular film in the United States, and the seventh-most-popular film in The Philippines. It has been the seventh-most-popular film in The Philippines for four days straight and was the fifth-most popular film in the U.S. on Tuesday, and Wednesday, before jumping up two spots today.
In the movie, Bradley Cooper stars as an alcoholic musician who discovers a young singer (played by Lady Gaga). He falls in love with her, and helps her rise to stardom, but stumbles himself due to his worsening alcoholism. While the story itself isn’t exactly novel, Bradly Cooper’s performance, along with his chemistry with Lady Gaga, was widely praised.
The movie was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including best picture, and best actor for Bradley Cooper. The only Oscar it won was the best original song for Shallow, which both Cooper and Gaga sang during the movie. It ultimately lost out to the biographical comedy-drama Green Book for best picture, and Cooper’s performance was eclipsed by Rami Malek’s portrayal of Freddy Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Outside of the Academy Awards, A Star is Born was nominated for 278 separate awards, winning 108 of them — most of which were for the song Shallow.
A Star is Born is actually a remake of an older movie — the fourth version of the same story to ever make it to the silver screen. The original movie was released in 1937, starring Janet Gaynor and Fred March. In 1954, this movie was remade as a musical starring Wizard of Oz star Judy Garland and North by Northwest star James Mason. The third version of the film, starring Barbara Streisand, was released in 1976. Bradley Cooper not only starred in the 2018 version of the film, but he also directed the movie.
A Star is Born was Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut, though he’s also signed on to direct the upcoming film Maestro, starring himself, Suffragette actress Carey Mulligan, and Stranger Things actress Maya Hawke. The film, which is scheduled to be released on Netflix in 2023, is a biographical drama about American composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein. Bernstein is best known for creating the movement for West Side Story, though he also composed the score for the Marlon Brando crime drama On the Waterfront, and an operetta based on Voltaire’s novel Candide.
While Bradley Cooper may have been a newcomer to directing when he created A Star is Born, he certainly was no stranger to film. He has 64 performances under his belt, including voicing Rocket Raccoon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring as Chris Kyle in American Sniper, playing Phil in all three Hangover movies, and he portrayed Jon Peters in Licorice Pizza. Along with Maestro, he’s set to appear in 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, along with an as-yet-untitled Frank Bullitt project.
