Although we don’t ever get to see Bradley Cooper’s face in the MCU, his voice has provided plenty of entertainment as Rocket Racoon in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Now it looks like we’ll be getting even more Rocket than expected, thanks to the upcoming Disney+ series of shorts titled I Am Groot. Recently, certain theatres played the first episode of I Am Groot before screening Thor: Love and Thunder. The first episode featured Groot making an art project and a surprise cameo from Rocket Racoon, with Bradley Cooper’s name appearing in the credits.
With five total episodes of I Am Groot hitting Disney+, it’s possible that we’ll get more of Bradley Cooper’s Rocket in other episodes, or possibly cameos from some of the other Guardians. I Am Groot is an interesting entry to the MCU universe, as it’s technically not canon to the overarching Guardians of the Galaxy saga, at least according to Guardians director James Gunn. They’re also animated shorts, so don’t expect to see any of the Guardians in live action. The I Am Groot series seems to take place close to the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, judging by the fact Groot is still a baby in the series. In more recent appearances, such as the Guardians’ Thor: Love and Thunder cameo, Groot appeared as a teenager. While details of other episodes of the I Am Groot series are light, it’s been confirmed that one episode will explore Groot’s homeworld, Planet X.
As for Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Racoon, there will be at least two more significant appearances from the beloved hero. All of the Guardians should be back for James Gunn’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special, which is set to release in time for the holidays this year. He’ll also be appearing in the finale of James Gunn’s Guardians trilogy with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. While the plot for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is being kept under wraps, we’ll be seeing Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, Sylvester Stallone, Sean Gunn, and Elizabeth Debicki all reprising their roles from the previous movies. Newcomers include Daniela Melchior, Maria Bakalova, Chukwudi Iwuji, Nico Santos, Stephen Blackehart, Olive Raine Cleope, Reinaldo Faberlle, and Will Poulter. Will Poulter’s role has a lot of hype behind it, as he’ll be playing the long-anticipated Adam Warlock, who has been teased throughout the Guardians films.
If you want to see (or hear) Bradley Cooper as Rocket Racoon again as soon as possible, you can check out his cameo in Thor: Love and Thunder, which is in theatres right now. Otherwise, you can wait until August 10 for the new I Am Groot shorts to be released. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special should be released sometime in December and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to come out May 5, 2023. Bradley Cooper is also currently working on a biopic called Maestro, where he’ll be playing Leonard Bernstein.
