Exclusive: Brad Pitt Starring In Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi Movie Desolation Run For Netflix
Step aside Tom Hardy and Mel Gibson! Our trusted and proven sources tell us that Brad Pitt will be starring in his own post-apocalyptic adventure, Desolation Run, for Netflix. The movie will reunite Pitt with War Machine director and co-writer David Michôd, who will helm the feature.
The logline provided to us says Desolation Run takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, where lone wanderer Ryan Creed (Brad Pitt) teams up with cunning mechanic Elara to escape a brutal desert wasteland controlled by ruthless warlords. While we know Pitt will play the lead role, there’s no word yet on who will join him as his sidekick Elara, or who will play the warlords they face together.
We’ve exclusively learned Brad Pitt will star in the post-apocalyptic Netflix feature Desolation Run, directed by David Michôd.
While there’s no specific mention in the logline of car races in the desert or white-faced war boys screaming about Valhalla, Brad Pitt’s upcoming film does sound like it’s from the same post-apocalyptic vein as George Miller’s Mad Max films, Waterworld, The Book of Eli, etc.
Desolation Run doesn’t technically mark a genre first for Brad Pitt, but it’s pretty close. His 2013 zombie hit World War Z is generally considered post-apocalyptic, but if you want to be nit-picky you could argue that since the movie chronicles civilization’s fall, it’s more just plain apocalyptic without the “post.” Whereas what we know of Desolation Run makes it sound like it’s set long after the civilized world has already moved on.
Brad Pitt And David Michôd
The feature will mark the third time Brad Pitt and Australian filmmaker David Michôd have worked together on a Netflix film, though only Pitt’s second time in front of the camera. Pitt starred as the lead of Michôd’s 2017 war satire and Netflix original War Machine.
For their second Netflix team-up, Brad Pitt stayed behind the camera as a producer on 2019’s The King. Earning much more acclaim than War Machine, the historical epic The King starred Timothée Chalamet (Dune: Part Two) as England’s King Henry V. Chalamet was joined by an impressive cast that includes Ben Mendelsohn (Secret Invasion), Robert Pattinson (The Batman), Joel Edgerton (Bright), and Lily Rose-Depp (The Idol).
The logline provided to us says Desolation Run takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, where lone wanderer Ryan Creed (Brad Pitt) teams up with cunning mechanic Elara to escape a brutal desert wasteland controlled by ruthless warlords.
Regardless of whether or not Brad Pitt is new to the post-apocalypse genre, like his fellow Aussie filmmaker George Miller, David Michôd isn’t. The year 2014 saw the release of The Rover, which Michôd directed and co-wrote with Joel Edgerton. The Rover stars Robert Pattinson, Guy Pearce (L.A. Confidential) and Scoot McNairy (Killing Them Softly) ten years after a global economic collapse.
Once we have more information on Desolation Run, including who will be joining Brad Pitt in the film, we’ll make sure you know.
