1980s Controversial Sexy Thriller Getting Remake From Carrie Director
Could we be looking at yet another Hollywood remake? Of course, this is Hollywood after all. That could come in the form of a new Body Heat. The original Body Heat, released in 1981, featured actors such as Kathleen Turner, William Hurt, and Ted Danson. The plot was based loosely on Double Indemnity, but raunchier. It’s considered an American neo-noir erotic thriller.
Body Heat Remake?
Lawrence Kasdan helmed the original Body Heat and it was his directorial debut. For those who have somehow missed out on this classic, it’s a story about a woman married to a wealthy, but much older, man.
She starts having an affair with someone closer to her age, and together they plan a way to kill her husband and run with all of his money.
Now, over four decades after the original came out, Body Heat is undergoing a modern update. The director and co-writer is Kimberly Peirce. She’s also the director of the 2013 Carrie and Stop/Loss.
Changing The Story?
Many people are speculating on the ways she might change the Body Heat story. There are some theories that it could be turned into a relationship involving two men, but some say that two women is also possible.
Though she has done queer movies before, such as Boys Don’t Cry, that’s not all she does. She has quite a variety of different movies and TV shows under her belt.
No Plans Revealed, Yet
The director herself hasn’t said anything about her plans. Everything at the moment is speculation. In the last decade, the director has moved on from movies to almost exclusively TV shows, leaving fans wondering how well the Body Heat remake will do.
In fact, almost everything is still up in the air. There hasn’t been much in the way of information at all, including a timeline, other writers, or how far they’re going to stay from the original plot of Body Heat.
Casting Is A Mystery
The little information that was provided about a Body Heat remake came from Roger Friedman, a writer for ShowBiz411, and DanielRPK.
Although information on potential actors has yet to be released, people are already clamoring to suggest their favorite actors for the role. Matthew McConaughey as Ned and Florence Pugh as Matty are two recommended actors for the upcoming movie.
There aren’t too many people excited about the movie. Though Boy’s Don’t Cry was well received, Stop/Loss and Carrie were not received nearly as well.
Remakes Are A Mixed Bag
There’s also a general negative connotation against remakes of classics as well. Most people firmly believe that the classic is always better.
Remakes have a bad habit of changing the narrative and trying to go for more politically correct. Some remakes turn out fairly well, but not many of them. Of course, this one does have a chance to be incredibly popular, but it walks a very fine line.
Body Heat Could Change
Of course, people tend to be biased towards the first one they watch. So, if people watch the original Body Heat first, it’s generally the better one. However, those who watch remakes first often think they’re better.
Until more information is provided to fans of the original Body Heat, however, there’s just no way to tell. She could stay loyal to the original, or she could change it dramatically. People will just have to rely on rumors for a while.
