Black Panther 2 is going to have a lot on its plate to deal with. The tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman will hang heavy over the production. And exactly who will be taking on the mantle of Black Panther is still up in the air. There are going to be a lot of questions swirling around this movie. Thankfully, it looks like one major inquiry might have just gotten an answer. And if it ends up being true, it will be one of the most significant additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we have seen yet.
FandomWire is reporting that Black Panther 2 will see the introduction of none other than Doctor Doom into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character was a part of the Fantastic Four movie rights that Marvel regained when Disney merged with Fox. Most fans have assumed that Doctor Doom would be appearing in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, but if the report from FandomWire is on the money, it sounds like Marvel Studios wants to introduce him in a different movie that can set him up for the Fantastic Four.
This rumor is actually something that makes a lot of sense when you think about the character of Victor Von Doom. Black Panther 2 will likely continue to explore the political machinations of Wakanda and its standing on the global stage. Doctor Doom is the ruler of a different fictional country in the Marvel universe, Latveria. Making this sequel focus on two fictional nations could be a great way to further explore the grander political ramifications these characters have on their world.
However, FandowWire says that Black Panther 2 will not have Doctor Doom as the main villain. Instead, he will be “pulling the strings” behind the scenes while another focal villain takes the spotlight. With this information, it sounds like Doctor Doom is being saved for a post-credits stinger. That seems too perfect. The Avengers was able to do a similar thing with setting up Thanos in its credits scene and look how that turned out. If Doctor Doom shows up at the end of Black Panther 2, it will be an enormous way to setup future Marvel Cinematic Universe stories.
And FandowWire does confirm that Black Panther 2 will showcase Doctor Doom in his full armored getup. Fans were less than satisfied with previous film versions of Doctor Doom – the 2015 film, the duology from the ’00s, and an unreleased 1994 film all failed to impress – so Marvel Studios has a chance at delivering the definitive cinematic version of the iconic supervillain.
We will have to wait and see if this Black Panther 2 scoop ends up being true. Considering we have heard similar rumors in the past, we are willing to believe this one for the time being. The idea that Doctor Doom will be headed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is obvious, but seeing him show up in the Black Panther series could end up being a major surprise that sets up a great number of potential stories moving forward.
