At long last, we have finally been given the trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever aka Black Panther 2. The emotionally charged trailer brings so much to unpack, including a somber tone that shows T’Challa has most certainly passed on to the next life. Fan-favorite characters have returned including Shuri, Nakia, Ramonda, Okoye, and M’Baku. However, one of the biggest subplots behind the death of T’Challa is the emergence of the one and only Namor the Sub Mariner. The Atlanteans seem to play a major part in the plot of this sequel film. You can see the trailer below:
The beginning of the trailer for Black Panther 2 shows the aftermath of T’Challa’s passing on. Shuri is upset, and Ramonda seems to be leading Wakanda for the time being. There is plenty of emotions being shown because of T’Challa’s passing, including a memorial of everyone in white. The tone begins to shift drastically when an underwater birth is shown. This leads to the blue-colored Atlanteans that have been shown in Marvel before. Typically, Namor also has blue skin, but he has been altered within the MCU. Namor is now of Aztec or Mayan culture, as he is shown in jade jewelry and a massive headdress. It appears as if the Wakandans and Atlanteans are going to be battling one another. M’Baku does leap at Namor in a quick shot within the trailer. The trailer crescendos with someone in the Black Panther costume, though we are not sure who it is just yet. Shuri was supposed to be the frontrunner, but that might not be true now.
Another thing of note is Shuri is shown shaking hands with Riri Williams. Willaims is better known in the comics as Ironheart. She is incredibly smart in the same way that Shuri is, as she builds her own Iron Man armor. Willaims is also set to take on her own series in Phase 5 of the MCU’s upcoming plans. It would make sense for her and Shuri to know one another, and Shuri might help in the creation of her armor. With Iron Man dead, there is no one to take up the mantle, and Ironheart could be that person. Black Panther 2 looks quite exciting already.
Black Panther 2 is bringing in Namor, and he has always ridden the line between being a superhero and anti-hero. We might be seeing the anti-hero Namor that feels he is owed the land of Wakanda for some reason. Either way, we are excited that Marvel is finally bringing in the classic character. It has been a long time coming.
Black Panther 2 is set to debut on November 11, 2022. We are finally going to see who is next to take up the mantle of Black Panther. However, it appears as if Namor is not going to allow that to easily happen. This new sequel film is going to wrap up Phase 4 of the MCU, so expect a ton of cameos and knowledge to be dropped leading into the next slate of shows and films.
