Black Mirror Season 6 First Video Reveals An Amazing Star-Studded Cast
Black Mirror Season 6 will feature Aaron Paul, Zazie Beetz, Salma Hayek Pinault, and many others.
The future is grim in the first look at Black Mirror Season 6. Netflix released a teaser trailer for the new season, announcing a June release and unveiling the series’ newest class of A-list actors. Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, Deadpool 2’s Zazie Beetz, and the legendary Salma Hayek Pinault headline the impeccable cast.
Variety reported even more actors joining Black Mirror than the impressive Season 6 trailer showed. Notables from the laundry list of talent include Michael Cera, Anjana Vasan, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, and many more.
The trailer promises the same sort of violent, dark premises the show is known for, but with unexpected twists on the show’s scope, scale, and identity. The new season will tell stories across different time periods and perhaps even leave Earth.
Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker said that the noticeably more cinematic Season 6 will push the production and the show’s concepts further than ever.
“I’ve always felt that ‘Black Mirror’ should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people (and myself), or else what’s the point?” Brooker said. “It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself.”
To keep the vital freshness that makes Black Mirror what it is, Brooker broke the boundaries in Season 6. “… I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect. Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes, we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what a Black Mirror episode even is.”
Black Mirror ran its first two seasons on broadcast television in the UK. When Netflix picked the show up, it became a worldwide phenomenon. The anthology series takes notes from shows like The Twilight Zone and Tales From the Crypt, allowing each episode to have a distinct style, premise, and cast that explores a disturbing take on technological advancement.
The sci-fi series has boosted its production value and scale over the course of five seasons, with standout episodes like “USS Callister”, a dark riff on Star Trek, and the Jon Hamm-led “White Christmas” taking the show to unexpected heights. Black Mirror will not only go bigger in Season 6, but it will also offer the greatest variety any season of the show ever has.
Season 6 will be released on Netflix four years to the month after the release of Season 5. During the long hiatus, Brooker has apparently been redefining the show and breaking his own rules. Some fresh voices have helped him to do that.
Black Mirror added Ms. Marvel showrunner Bisha K. Ali as an executive producer to serve alongside Brooker and producer alums Annabel Jones and Jessica Rhoades. Brooker is credited as the creator of Black Mirror and the writer of Season 6.
To pull off Black Mirror Season 6, Brooker enlisted a group of “disgustingly skillful, smart directors” to work with the show’s “cast of actors so talented they frankly have no right to exist.” The series has always kept viewers guessing, and the episodes due in June look to continue that trend.
With the conclusions of flagship shows like Stranger Things and You on the horizon, Netflix will need fresh material to stay competitive with juggernauts like Amazon Prime and the newly branded Max. Black Mirror returning for Season 6 after its long hiatus could be a big boost for the streaming service.
The best science fiction expands the limits of what is thought to be possible. Black Mirror will expand those limits in more ways than one with Season 6. As the show edges into new territory with a brilliant cast of actors, the dark future of Black Mirror looks brighter than ever.
