For former wrestler and actor Dwayne Johnson, crafting a career based on acting in blockbuster franchises is nothing new, especially considering his foray into hit film series like Jumanji, Journey To The Center Of The Earth, The Fast and the Furious film saga, as well as his initial start playing Mathayus aka The Scorpion King in The Mummy films. His entry into the DC Extended Universe has been highly anticipated for years, and now his debut in Black Adam will finally arrive in theaters later this month to an eager audience looking for more comic book action blockbusters. To help kick off the upcoming premiere of Black Adam, the film’s theme song has been released to YouTube, and it seems to fit well with Johnson’s sense of adventure and thrill-seeking set to the tune of familiar notes from a well-known composer.
According to a report by CBR, the Black Adam theme song composed by Lorne Balfe has been released to YouTube in celebration of the film’s pending release, complete with an image of Dwayne Johnson as the titular character alongside the rest of the movie’s cast. Posted to Warner Bros.’s record label WaterTower Music’s official YouTube page, the theme song boasts the first single from the film’s soundtrack featuring Balfe’s signature notes that have been included in the Grammy Award winner’s work such as Black Widow, The Dark Knight, and The Crown. To date, the theme song has been played and viewed over 72,000 times since it dropped on YouTube on September 29.
Prior to his work on Black Adam, Lorne Balfe was well-known for his composition of scores and music in popular television shows and movies dating back to the early aughts. Often compared to his mentor Hans Zimmer, Balfe has worked with Zimmer on several projects, including Megamind, the Ron Howard movie The Dilemma, this summer’s blockbuster hit Top Gun: Maverick, and the television anthology series Genius. For the latter, Balfe was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, a nomination he shared with Hans Zimmer in 2017.
Directed by House of Wax helmer Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam is set to debut in theaters in the United States on October 21, pitting the antihero played by Dwayne Johnson against an ensemble cast of actors that includes Aldis Hodge, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before star Noah Centineo, City on a Hill actor Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, and former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan. The characters featured in Black Adam relate to the DC Comics, and it also serves as a spinoff of 2019’s hit film Shazam! starring Zachary Levi, Djimon Hounsou, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Asher Angel. Shazam! will be getting the sequel treatment soon as well, with a new DC Extended Universe entry coming next year entitled Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which will see most of the cast from the original reprise their roles, in addition to new characters played by Rachel Zegler, Lucy Liu, and Helen Mirren.
