Thanks to actor Bill Skarsgard, I may never sleep again. At least not in an Airbnb. The man who brought Pennywise the Clown from It to life is returning to the horror genre with Barbarian, a new horror film coming to theaters this August from 20th Century Studios. As the trailer shows, the film takes a common situation these days – staying in a rental home – and turns it into the most horrifying thing ever, tapping into our common fears and mistrusts.

According to ComicBook.com, the film stars Georgina Campbell (Krypton, Broadchurch) as a woman who arrives at a home she’s rented in Detroit, only to learn it was double-booked, with another tenant named Keith (Bill Skarsgard) already there. Against her better judgment, she reluctantly decides to share the house with him, just for the night, but soon discovers a terrifying secret lurks within the basement. Although the trailer hints that Keith may also be an innocent victim, you wouldn’t be the only one to suspect there’s more to him than meets the eye. The film also stars Justin Long (Jeepers Creepers, Live Free or Die Hard), Matthew Patrick Davis (Dwight in Shining Armor, American Dad!), Richard Brake, Kurt Braunohler and Jaymes Butler (Resident Evil) also star. Check out Bill Skarsgard in the trailer below:

The film opens in theaters on August 31. It’s written and directed by Zach Cregger, who directed the comedies Miss March in 2009 and The Civil War on Drugs in 2011. He’s best known as one of the writers, producers, and stars of The Whitest Kids U’Know comedy sketch show. Although he has an extensive background in comedy, the trailer makes it clear he has a knack for dialing up the creepy, and the film certainly has a dark, gritty feel that gives us hope for another modern horror classic, especially with Bill Skarsgard involved. The film is produced by Arnon Milchan, Roy Lee, Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz. Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer, Natalie Lehmann, Danny Chan, Alex Lebovici and Bill Skarsgard are executive producers.

Swedish-born Bill Skarsgard has built a pretty solid acting resume well beyond his career-defining role as Pennywise. After turning heads in his role in 2016’s Allegiant, he had a string of hits, including Atomic Blonde, Assassination Nation, Deadpool 2, and the It films. He’s known for his all-in approach to acting, a trait best seen in his Pennywise role, where he personally developed some of the character’s scariest traits. That includes the incredibly weird “drifting eye” the killer clown has, which is not a CGI effect: it’s all Bill’s natural ability.

Bill Skarsgard has a full slate of projects coming up, including some huge films. He is playing the lead in the upcoming The Crow reboot, playing Eric Draven, the character immortalized by Brandon Lee in the original 1994 cult classic. That film begins shooting soon, as does Gilded Rage, the true story of the infamous murder of Thomas Gilbert Jr. (Skarsgard will play Gilbert in the film). He will next be seen in Lee Tamahori’s knight epic Emperor and in John Wick Chapter 4, which opens next year.
