For most fans of Bill Murray, it’s pretty hard to imagine meeting him, let alone working with the star. He has a long history in Hollywood. For a young actor, that could be particularly thrilling, and intimidating, which is how his Ghostbusters: Afterlife co-stars have described the experience in a new interview with ComicBook.com. They’ve also recalled the thrill of getting to work on set with the star on his birthday, and just how strange and wonderful Bill Murray’s birthday celebrations on set actually were. Namely? The actor hired a bagpiper to follow him around on set all day.

“Imagine, we got to be there for Bill Murray’s birthday,” Grace McKenna said. “And he hired a bagpiper to follow him around.” Then Finn Wolfhard added, “But he pretended like he wasn’t behind him.” The young actors went on to explain that the bagpipe player was there, on set, invisible to Bill Murray as he went about his daily business. Then, when lunchtime came around, the actor sang an older Scottish anthem for them. The actors didn’t name the song, and it’s assumed that he sang while the bagpipe player worked. McKenna Grace said the song was really beautiful. Both stars seemed very appreciative of the rare moment they got to have with the star. It certainly sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Beyond celebrating his birthday by bringing a bagpipe player to set, Bill Murray was also a very relatable and down-to-earth person, as Finn Wolfhard described it. The young star, known for his work on the Netflix show Stranger Things, recalled talking to Murray about a music festival that Murray was going to. Wolfhard shared that Murray took the time to talk about the different musicians and they both got to share which musicians they knew and liked. Finn Wolfhard described the experience as “really, really sweet.”

For Finn Wolfhard, there’s an added element of surrealness. The young actor first became known to audiences he starred in Stranger Things, and in the early run of the show, he once dressed up as a Ghostbuster for Halloween. That makes it a safe bet that he’s been a Bill Murray fan for a while before having the opportunity to work with him on the new movie.

For the young stars of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, working with Bill Murray sounds like a highlight. Having so many members of the original cast return is also something that audiences have been looking forward to. The new movie is making big promises about channeling nostalgia for the early films. Unfortunately, that’s something early critical reviews are saying goes overboard, but hopefully, when the movie hits theaters, audiences will feel differently.

Currently, Bill Murray fans are enjoying his role in the new Wes Anderson movie, The French Dispatch. The actor has a long history of working in Wes Anderson films. Audiences are also waiting for confirmation that he’s set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Recently, the actor let slip comments during an interview. He named the director he’s working with next, who just so happens to be the director of Ant-Man 3. The Ant-Man movie stars Paul Rudd, whom Bill Murray just worked with on Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Marvel likes to keep their secrets, and the actor has since attempted to walk back his comments, but not too convincingly.
