Big Bang Theory Star Calls Spinoff Too Soon
There are also plenty of fans who think that it might be too soon for a Big Bang Theory spin-off, with the series ending just four years ago. Kunal Nayyar would agree with that sentiment, as he recently commented to TVLine, “Can you do a [revival] only four years after your show ends,” adding, “That’s not a reunion show; that’s just another season.” However, that wasn’t Nayyar shutting down the idea, as he also said, “If [the spinoff] were to happen, we’ll see what the universe says.”
Nayyar Hasn’t Gotten A Call
The reported Big Bang Theory spin-off at Max has fans excited, but apparently, former cast members of the show aren’t in the loop about it. Nayyar, who played Raj in the series, also said that he hasn’t heard anything about the series. He said, “To be honest, I have not heard anything about this other than what the media has spun out,” adding, “I’m not entirely sure what it’s about.”
Fan Theorists Proven Wrong?
So, fans aren’t the only ones who are in the dark about what Chuck Lorre has planned for his Big Bang Theory spin-off. With that being said, it’s a bit surprising that Nayyar hasn’t heard anything because many people were theorizing that the spin-off would actually center on his character. The series provided satisfying ends for all of the core characters, except for Raj, whose engagement was broken off at the end.
Raj was one of Big Bang Theory’s most romantic characters, so a series centering on him trying to find his true love could be the satisfying end fans want. Even if the spin-off didn’t center on Raj, perhaps he could be in the central cast again. However, Nayyar’s comments certainly make it seem like this won’t be the case.
Delayed By The Strike
The Big Bang Theory spin-off was first revealed last April, with the only details being the show would stream on Max and executive producer Chuck Lorre was developing the series. The Writer’s Guild of America went on strike shortly after, so development didn’t get very far. It could be a little while before we find out exactly what the spin-off is about.
Young Sheldon
At the very least, it seems like Nayyar would be willing to reprise his role as Raj if Big Bang Theory does come back. In the meantime, the inaugural Big Bang Theory spin-off is still doing well, so it’s not surprising that Warner Bros Discovery is willing to go back to that well. The prequel spin-off Young Sheldon was renewed in 2021 for fifth, sixth, and seventh seasons, and the seventh season premiere is set to hit screens on February 15.
Young Sheldon is coming to an end after this season, with the series finale set to air in May. However, there will be more of the Young Sheldon universe for fans of the show, as there was a spin-off series announced that will focus on Georgie Cooper and Mandy McAllister. That series is currently in development.
More To Come
While we don’t know much about the Big Bang Theory spin-off, there is sure to be more information as it gets further along in development. In the meantime, you can see the final season premiere of Young Sheldon on February 15. Stay tuned for more news on this and other Big Bang Theory spin-offs.
