The version of Shaun of the Dead that can be seen in theaters soon is a fully remastered version that will look and sound even better than before. After a painstaking process of a lengthy Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos upgrade, Simon Pegg and company will be seen and heard with “ultra vivid colors” and “immersive sound.” For a film that’s as bloody as it is hilarious, this revamped version is poised to generate quite a turnout at the box office leading into the latter part of 2024.

The Best Zombie Comedy Of All Time

Shaun of the Dead

For those who slept on it, Shaun of the Dead is the story of its slacker title character (played by Simon Pegg) who battles zombified Londoners on his way to lead his mum, girlfriend, and friends across town to wait out the plague of the undead in his favorite pub.

With the plan of having a pint at the Winchester and waiting for it all to “blow over” in mind, Shaun’s efforts are complicated by his hot/cold relationship with Liz (Kate Ashfield), jealousy from Liz’s friend David (Dylan Moran), and the gross incompetence of his oafish roommate Ed (Nick Frost).

With flesh-hungry zombies right on their tails, Shaun and his traveling companions fight their way to the Winchester using any weapon they can find, including the film’s iconic cricket bats.

A Highly Quotable Horror Comedy

Shaun of the Dead

The witty banter throughout the film has become fodder for some of the most quoted material from any horror comedy. Shaun of the Dead helped to launch Simon Pegg‘s film career, acting as a vehicle for the actor/writer to give fans even more wit in subsequent films like Hot Fuzz and Run Fat Boy, Run. The off-beat humor combined with some pretty incredible creature effects make the 2004 film a great zombie movie apart from the comedic vein it was constructed in.

The 20th anniversary re-release of Shaun of the Dead has been a project that director and co-writer Edgar Wright has been excited about for a long time. In a recent statement ahead of its release to theaters, Wright proclaimed that he’s elated to have the cult-classic seen in its best version yet while also giving the film’s fans a chance to see it on the big screen.
