The Best Spider-Man Is Getting A Live-Action Series
A new Spider-Man Noir live-action series is on the way from Amazon Studios.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse reintroduced the world to Spider-Man Noir, an iteration of the web-slinger from the 1930s, that all but stole the show. Now, Variety has revealed that a Spider-Man Noir live-action series is being put together by Amazon Studios. There is no telling if Nicolas Cage will return to portray the Great Depression era Spidey, but we sure hope that will be the case.
This new Spider-Man Noir series will be the first time that the character will be showcased in a live-action format, as he has mostly appeared in animated ventures. The first was the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series, where he was voiced by Milo Ventimiglia. The next case was for the previously mentioned Into the Spider-Verse movie, which saw the wonderful Nicolas Cage take on the role.
Spider-Man Noir is stated to be a grizzled older man that lives in 1930s New York and is bitten by a spider that is inside a stolen artifact. Noir is then granted powers from a spider-god. This origin story is certainly different than most of the other Spider-People that we have been introduced to, and Amazon is planning to see the main character not be an iteration of Peter Parker.
Spider-Man Noir would certainly benefit from having Nicolas Cage return, as his vocal stylings fit the character so well. Considering the character is also older, Cage would fit the bill to become the superhero. Honestly, Cage is the most logical choice.
Spider-Man Noir now joins Silk: Spider Society as the newest Sony-owned property to join Amazon Studios. Oren Uziel is set to be the showrunner and executive producer for the series and put it together with Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Lord and Miller had already cast Nicolas Cage in the role previously for Into the Spider-Verse, so we would say he might have a good shot to reprise his character.
Uziel is most famous for having worked as the writer for The Lost City, which starred Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, and Daniel Radcliffe. He also has writing credits for 22 Jump Street, The Cloverfield Paradox, and Mortal Kombat (2021). Uziel is certainly more than qualified to handle this Spider-Man Noir series.
Spider-Man Noir will be set in its own universe, and will likely have nothing to do with the upcoming Venom, Madame Web, and Kraven movies that Sony is also producing. While we would love to see Noir take on contemporary villains, it wouldn’t make sense for a 1930s Spider-Man to be fighting Tom Hardy’s Venom.
Spider-Man Noir was just announced by Amazon Studios, so the series premiering is likely still going to be a couple of years away, though the announcement of who is going to lead this series should happen relatively soon. Again, it would make sense for Nicolas Cage to return to the role, as he was one of the breakout characters in Into the Spider-Verse. Cage did state that he was not going to be involved in Across the Spider-Verse, but he would certainly love to return to the Noir character, as he loved portraying him.
