Science fiction movies have always been a genre many movie audiences have gotten into. Whether you like your sci-fi to include aliens or space travel, these films are always exciting and fantastical. Netflix continues to provide its customers with a great selection of sci-fi movies, from originals to big blockbusters.
Here are some great sci-fi movies available on Netflix right now.
Starship Troopers (1997)
If you are into classic sci-fi with some gore, nudity, and laughs, then Netflix has one of the best options available on their site. Starship Troopers is an incredibly fun ride brought to the big screen by director Paul Verhoeven, based on the Robert A. Heinlein novel of the same name.
The film stars Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Jake Busey, and Neil Patrick Harris. Van Dien is Johnny Rico who joins the United Citizen Federation to battle the infestation of an alien species called Arachnids. Despite being critically panned when first released, the film is now considered to be a cult classic.

Dune (Original – 1984)
It definitely depends on one’s affinity for science fiction on whether this film version of the 1965 Frank Herbert novel is one to appreciate or not. David Lynch (Twin Peaks) both wrote and directed this epic sci-fi tale. The story tells of two noble families in the near future who battle for control of the desert planet Arrakis.
Kyle MacLachlan stars as Paul Atreides, the Atreides heir. Brad Dourif, Linda Hunt, Virginia Madsen, and Francesca Annis also star.

The Adam Project (2022)
The Adam Project is a Netflix original sci-fi film that tosses in a little bit of time travel for fun. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds as Adam Reed, a time pilot who crash lands in 2022 and must team up with his 12-year-old self to try to solve the mystery of their father’s death. Mark Ruffalo portrays their father, a man who cracked the code for time travel. Jennifer Garner, Catherine Keener, and Zoe Saldaña also star.

The Colony (2021)
The Colony is set in the future where Earth is a polluted planet and the elite have left for a more hospitable planet. The space colony that has left Earth settled on the planet Kepler-209. The sci-fi film follows a space team from Kepler-209 who make a return to Earth generations later so they can test the atmosphere to see if their former home is suitable for habitation.
The German-Swiss Netflix sci-fi film stars Nora Arnezeder, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Iain Glen, Joel Basman, and Sebastian Roché.

The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)
The Cloverfield Paradox is the third film in the Cloverfield franchise, following Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane. The sci-fi Netflix film follows a group of astronauts on a mission to solve Earth’s energy crisis.
Aboard the space station, they use a particle accelerator in hopes of finding the solution, but instead, have to now find their home when it seemingly vanishes. The movie stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, David Oyelowo, Daniel Brühl, Chris O’Dowd, and John Ortega.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)
Arnold Schwarzenegger was back in a big way as the cyborg T-800 in this James Cameron sci-fi sequel. In it, Schwarzenegger was no longer the “hunter,” but now the “protector.
He is sent back in time to protect a young John Connor from a new, highly advanced cyborg (Robert Patrick) who was sent back to kill Connor. Linda Hamilton returns as Sarah Connor and Edward Furlong plays the young John Connor.
