See The Best Scenes From Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Trailer In Freeze Frame
The first Star Wars: Ahsoka trailer has many great moments, so we grabbed a few worth highlighting.
The upcoming Star Wars: Ahsoka, following the former apprentice of Anakin Skywalker, has released its first trailer. And whoo boy, there’s a lot to digest. You can watch the trailer below, and look at some of the biggest reveals from the 2-minute preview.
The return of the Mandalorian Sabine Wren
While we already have a series focused on a member of the legendary Mandalorian clan, the return of Sabine Wren shows that members of the combat-centric culture still have a role to play outside of the popular Disney+ series. Her appearance in the Ahsoka trailer also confirms that members of the animated Star Wars: Rebels TV series she hails from will get the full live-action treatment in the new series.
The return of the pilot Hera Syndulla
Sabine Wren isn’t the only Star Wars: Rebels character to make a showing in the Ahsoka trailer. Hera Syndulla, the Twi’lek pilot of the freight ship The Ghost, also features prominently. We see her take part in an aerial battle and stand alongside some unnamed characters.
Ezra Bridger, the force-sensitive protagonist of Star Wars: Rebels, also makes an appearance — but only as a hologram, making it a little hard to get excited about his role in Ahsoka — however prominent it may end up being.
The Mysterious Orange-Sabered Force Users
The introduction of any new Jedi or Sith in a trailer always has people asking who they are, but the unusual lightsaber color in the Ahsoka trailer brings about more questions than usual. Ray Stevenson and Ivanna Sakhno’s unnamed characters both wield a red-orange colored lightsaber, implying that they’re both part of the same group of force-wielders — a group that isn’t the traditionally red-sabered Sith. Ray Stevenson fighting Ahsoka and force-choking a New Republic trooper implies allegiance to the Dark Side, but what this means as part of the eternal light/dark battle is anyone’s guess.
The Return of a Red Double-Bladed Lightsaber
So far there’s no actual information about the mysterious masked character seen fighting Ahsoka with a double-bladed lightsaber toward the end of the trailer. The most well-known character to wield that lightsaber was former Sith apprentice Darth Maul, but he died at the hand of Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Rebels. Of course, he also seemed to have died in The Phantom Menace, and that mysterious figure does seem to be moving a lot like Ray Park…
The Appearance of Grand Admiral Thrawn
It’s only the back of Thrawn‘s head, and we don’t see him do anything, but there’s something very satisfying about witnessing the first-ever live-action appearance of a character who’s been around for more than 30 years. In fact, it’s hard to think of anything in the Ahsoka trailer that could top the significance of…
DID THEY JUST NAME-DROP HEIR TO THE EMPIRE?!
Heir to the Empire?! Did the Ahsoka trailer seriously end by name-dropping Heir to the Empire, the 1991 Timothy Zahn novel that introduced Grand Admiral Thrawn and opened the floodgates for dozens of canonical (at the time) Star Wars novels that were released in the 90s and 2000s? Is… is this show an attempt to fuse the Star Wars Legends stories with the new, post-Disney timeline?
If you’re not a nerd who devoured as much pre-Disney Star Wars media, you have no idea how big of a deal this would be. It means that tons of long-forgotten characters could be returning to the Star Wars universe. For those who loved the Star Wars Legends canon, this seemingly-insignificant part of the Ahsoka trailer has the potential to be the biggest reveal yet.
Is Ray Stevenson’s character Joruus C’Baoth? Will we be seeing Talon Karrde or Mara Jade appear? Will parts of later novels eventually make their way into shows and movies?
Perhaps that’s an overreaction to a single line spoken by Ahsoka in the trailer. But if that line is nothing more than fan bait, consider thousands of fans properly baited.
