The Best Nature Documentary Is Coming Back For One Final Season
There are few things that can make a person feel as safe and calm as the voice of David Attenborough, especially while watching a nature documentary. Lucky for everyone, the renowned narrator will make his return to the BBC’s natural history program Planet Earth, according to The Guardian. This will mark David Attenborough’s third and final involvement in the franchise, as he celebrated his 97th birthday earlier this year.

Filming has already begun on the award-winning docuseries, with David Attenborough joining the crew on location in his home country of Britain. In fact, he has already walked the same grounds as Charles Darwin, one of his personal heroes. It helps to bring the insightful documentary full circle since Planet Earth highlights the beauty and importance of our planet and how it has changed over the course of evolution.
Planet Earth III will follow a similar theme as the first and second seasons, which first began back in 2006. The calming and informative episodes delve into different habitats and animals, ranging from the deep blue sea to the vast deserts around our world. Each season has been beloved by viewers and critics, and they have won many awards including Baftas and Royal Television Society awards.

In addition to narrating countless nature documentaries over the course of his long career (which earned him the award for UK’s Favourite TV Presenter of All Time), David Attenborough has also been an incredible advocate for our environment. Several of his works, including Netflix’s Our Planet and BBC One’s Climate Change – The Facts, emphasized how humans are responsible for destroying planet Earth, and that we all need to make significant change before it’s too late.
While a release date has not been confirmed yet for Planet Earth III, we do know that it will feature eight hour-long episodes and will air on BBC One at some point later this year.
Before David Attenborough started on Planet Earth III, he said that the BBC Series Wild Isles, which aired earlier this year, was supposed to be his last project. Filming in his old age proved to be challenging on Wild Isles, as he needed to be accompanied by a doctor at times, and he couldn’t get too close to an island of birds for fear of catching a deadly bird flu. However, it seems like the renowned narrator is delighted to be back with the cast and crew, and we imagine that they are taking plenty of safety precautions for his health.
