Terminator 2 (1991)

Not only is James Cameron’s 1991 Terminator 2 one of the best action thrillers on Netflix, but it is one of the best action thrillers of all time. In the original Terminator, also a James Cameron film, Arnold Schwarzenegger was sent back in time to kill Sarah Connor to prevent her from having her son, John Connor, the future resistance leader.

This time Arnie is back as the T-800, but now he has been sent back from the future to protect a young John Connor from a more advanced cyborg (Robert Patrick). Linda Hamilton returns as Sarah Connor while Edward Furlong plays the young John Connor.

Extraction (2020)

Chris Hemsworth stars as Tyler Rake in Extraction, a Netflix action thriller about an Australian black ops mercenary who takes on the task of saving an Indian drug lord’s kidnapped son in Dhaka, Bangladesh. What appears to be a routine (for him at least) in-and-out extraction turns deadly Rake finds himself double-crossed. Sam Hargrave directs Extraction from a script written by Joe Russo (Avengers franchise, The Gray Man)

6 Underground (2019)

Director Michael Bay is back at it with his crazy camera cuts and angles, his large explosions, and his unrelenting action with 6 Underground. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds, who plays billionaire Magnet S. Johnson, a man who has seen enough horrors from a brutal Central Asian regime. He decides to fake his own death so he can take out the regime’s leader.

To do this, he forms a vigilante squad whose team members also fake their own deaths. The group consists of 6 members all given numbers (1 through 6) as names. Mélanie Laurent, Ben Hardy, Dave Franco, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Adria Arjona make up the team.

Takers (2010)

Takers is an action thriller that features an ensemble cast that follows a daring group of professional bank robbers who are pulled into one last heist by one of their recently paroled members. This last heist is made difficult when a tough detective and his partner figure out what the group is up to. The ensemble cast includes Idris Elba, Paul Walker, Matt Dillon, Jay Hernandez, Hayden Christensen, Chris Brown, and Zoe Saldana.

London Has Fallen (2016)

London Has Fallen is the middle film in the Has Fallen series, sandwiched in between Olympus Has Fallen (2013) and Angel Has Fallen (2019). In this film, Gerard Butler returns as Mike Banning, a secret service agent who has been assigned to head security for the President of the United States, Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart). They travel to London to attend the funeral of the British Prime Minister.

As all leaders of the G7 attend the funeral, a group of terrorists begins to pick off the leaders one by one. It is up to Banning to once again protect the President.

Triple Frontier (2019)

Triple Frontier is a Netflix original action thriller that stars Ben Affleck as the leader of a group of former U.S. Army Delta Force soldiers who find themselves back together planning the heist of a South American crime lord.

The heist goes smoothly, it is the escape back to the United States that will prove difficult. Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Pedro Pascal, and Garrett Hedlund also star.

The Old Guard (2020)

If you like your Netflix action thrillers with a taste of superheroes, then you will surely appreciate The Old Guard. Based on Greg Rucka’s comic book of the same name, The Old Guard tells the story of immortal mercenaries who are on a mission of revenge.

Charlize Theron leads this group of immortals as Andromache of Scythia. She is joined by KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Bullet Train (2022)

Bullet Train is a fun, action-packed thriller that stars Brad Pitt as “Ladybug,” an assassin with a crisis of conscience. He takes on a job after one of his “co-workers” calls in sick. The job appears to be an easy snatch and grab of a suitcase on Japan’s bullet train, but what Ladybug soon realizes is that there is more than just himself after the suitcase.

The cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Joey King, Andrew Koji, and Sandra Bullock as the woman in Ladybug’s ear.
