Update July 2024: Ben Stiller did not appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, though there were a number of other cameos, including Henry Cavill and Chris Evans.

Actor, comedian, and director Ben Stiller is currently in negotiations to appear as a Time Variance Authority agent in the upcoming Deadpool 3. According to our trusted and proven sources, the Zoolander star may pop up in the newest adventure of super-mercenary Wade Wilson as a member of the agency that monitors timelines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; rumor has it that the TVA will be a big part of the third Deadpool movie, so it would be unsurprising to see a few new agents pop up.

Ben Stiller appearing as a TVA agent in Deadpool 3 would also be a fun nod to Owen Wilson’s role as Agent Mobius in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which began with the Disney+ series Loki. We have already scooped that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki will appear in the Ryan Reynolds film, so it stands to reason that Mobius would also be showing up. If that means that Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson will reunite for a scene in Deadpool 3 as near-omnipotent time guardians, we will certainly not be upset.

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in Starsky & Hutch

To date, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson have appeared in 12 movies together, including full-on two-handers like 2004’s Starsky & Hutch, ensemble pictures like 2001’s The Royal Tenenbaums and 2000’s Meet the Parents, and brief appearances like both having small roles in 1996’s The Cable Guy (which Stiller also directed). If Marvel is able to lock down both Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson for Deadpool 3, that will make a nice baker’s dozen.

The plot of Deadpool 3 has been a closely guarded secret so far (typical for Marvel), though Ryan Reynolds has been dropping a few hints here and there. By far the biggest reveal so far has been the announcement that Hugh Jackman would be returning to the role of Wolverine after retiring from the character in 2017, acquiescing to the longheld and very loud wishes of Marvel fans and Ryan Reynolds alike.

In addition to possibly bringing in Ben Stiller as a TVA agent in Deadpool 3, an impressive amount of stars are being recruited for the character’s introduction to Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anna Paquin will be returning as X-Men member Rogue, while both James Marsden and Halle Berry are reportedly on Ryan Reynolds’ wish list. We will also be seeing Seth Green’s Howard the Duck, Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror (or some variation of the multidimensional being), and maybe even Brad Pitt returning as the Vanisher, probably to be abruptly killed off once more.

In all likelihood, Ben Stiller is being wooed to join Deadpool 3 as an in-joke about his famous friendship with Owen Wilson, rather than an integral part of the plot. That would fit right in with the jokey, irreverent tone of the series, which fans love for Ryan Reynolds’ peerless ability to comment on something that is happening on screen as it happens. We can expect Deadpool 3 to be as violent as ever (at least according to director Shawn Levy) and it sure looks like we can expect the humor to stay the same, too.
