The Best Batman Actor Loves Changing Diapers

When you think about Batman, you likely think about him punching out bad guys, pulling out cool toys from his utility belt, and hauling butt down the road in the Batmobile. Changing diapers is the last thing fans imagine, but that turns out to be a favorite activity for the latest (and many would say best) actor to put on the cape and cowl. According to his fianceé Suki Waterhouse, Robert Pattinson (star of The Batman) “excels at” and “enjoys” changing diapers because “he thinks it’s fun.”

Robert Pattinson Enjoys The Stinky Side Of Parenting

The context for this quote is that Waterhouse appeared on an episode of Today and received a question about whether she or Pattinson was the better diaper changer. At this query, Waterhouse demured and noted that she changes more diapers than he does, but this hasn’t kept her fiancé from cultivating both passion and skill for this daily parental challenge. When Robert Pattinson isn’t working on movie projects (like The Batman 2, set to start filming next year), she says that he likes changing diapers because of “the surprise, and everything.”

Both Mom And Dad Have Busy Schedules

One of the presumable reasons that Waterhouse is sympathetic to her fiancé’s shooting schedules is that she stays very busy as a popular and successful musician. In that same interview, she described performing at Coachella very shortly after giving birth and how that wouldn’t have been possible without her hardworking team helping to accommodate her. Thanks to their tireless prep work, Waterhouse said that “all I had to do was basically get out of my house for one of the first times, get into the car with the baby, go drive to the desert, which is just a couple of hours away.”

Not Prepared For The Newborn Stage

Making the most out of such prep time is a hallmark of the superhero, but neither Robert Pattinson nor Suki Waterhouse engaged in any Batman-like preparation ahead of their daughter being born. She explains that their logic sounded great on paper, with the couple thinking, “let’s just see what it’s like, and let’s be surprised by the whole thing.” The results weren’t surprising, and they had the kind of experience countless parents can sympathize with: “those first two weeks were absolutely insane.”

Suki Waterhouse’s Experience

Thanks to his schedule, Robert Pattinson wasn’t there when his child was born at home, but the Batman actor made the most of those early days. That was when he developed his surprising skill at changing diapers, and this was also when Waterhouse had something of a personal revelation regarding her own mother. She notes that, post-childbirth, “it’s incredibly healing when you look to your own mom and just have this whole other level of understanding.”

A Skill Every Batman Should Know

For all of their relative fame, it sounds like Waterhouse and Pattinson surprisingly learned many parental lessons the hard way, including the perils of not planning ahead of time and the logistics of balancing their busy careers around taking care of a new life.

Fortunately, it seems like the two have settled into their new role very nicely: every time Waterhouse speaks about her daughter, you can see her eyes light up with love and devotion. As for Robert Pattinson, he’s not known for bright eyes (especially with all that black makeup under the Batman mask),but it’s great to know that he can change a diaper with more skill than his Caped Crusader throws a batarang.
