Baby Driver 2 Actually Happening With The Most Important Person

By Douglas Helm | Published

The 2017 film Baby Driver was a great Edgar Wright film that included everything Wright does best. Now, reports are saying that Wright is all set to make Baby Driver 2 his next project after he finishes the upcoming Running Man. The reports also say that Jon Bernthal’s character will be a much bigger part of the sequel

Baby Driver

Baby Driver was essentially a mixtape of great songs perfectly choreographed into a kinetic action film, all with Edgar Wright’s directorial flourishes.

With some interesting characters and great performances sprinkled on top, the film became a critical and box office hit with $226 million globally and three Oscar noms. The success of that film led to talks about Baby Driver 2, but now it seems like the project is finally coming to fruition.

Ansel Elgort

In addition to learning that Edgar Wright, whose style and vision are absolute necessities for a sequel, is making Baby Driver 2.

There’s no word on if lead Ansel Elgort will be back for the sequel, or if any of the other actors whose characters survived the first film will return. In any case, it seems like a script is done, so now Wright just has to cast and shoot the thing.

The Running Man

Before Edgar Wright returns for Baby Driver 2, he’ll finish shooting his adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel The Running Man. Glen Powell, who has had a recent streak of hits with Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You, and Hit Man, has been cast as the lead in the feature.

The Running Man was previously adapted for the big screen in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role, though Wright has said his version will be more faithful to the novel than the 1987 version.

Barbarella

The Running Man takes place in 2025 and involves citizens of the US participating in a game show called The Running Man where they’re hunted down across the world with the chance of winning money if they survive.

Along with Baby Driver 2 and The Running Man, Edgar Wright is also on board to direct a remake of Barbarella starring Sydney Sweeney. However, that project is still in the very early development stages and likely won’t start shooting until 2026 or 2027, given Wright’s current schedule.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

If Barbarella is still a couple of years out and Wright is shooting The Running Man this year, then that means 2025 could be when filming for Baby Driver 2 kicks off. Wright’s most recent film was 2021’s Last Night in Soho, which flopped financially and got mixed reviews from critics and audiences.

However, Edgar Wright did recently executive produce Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, which was a wonderful reimaging of his 2010 film adaptation of Byran Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World graphic novel series.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see when Baby Driver 2 is set to come out, but, hopefully, it’ll be sooner than later. Wright is juggling a lot of projects right now, but they all seem pretty promising. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated on Baby Driver 2, The Running Man, Barbarella, and more.
