See The Hilariously Awful New Ms. Marvel Suit For The Marvels
If the newly released poster is actually for real, then Ms. Marvel's suit in The Marvels is absolutely abominable.
Whoever said, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it,” clearly didn’t work for Marvel, at least if a recently released poster is legit.
If so, then apparently, the suits at Disney didn’t think the Ms. Marvel version of Kamala Khan’s superhero suit was ugly enough and wanted her to have a hideous new costume for her big screen debut The Marvels.
We know taste is subjective, but c’mon, if that new outfit were smutty Twilight fanfic, it would be 50 Shades of Lame.
A new poster for The Marvels was just released and it gives us our first good look (or should we say bad look) at Ms. Marvel’s new outfit.
The source for the poster is a Twitter user named “Marvel Studio Rumors,” so we’re not necessarily saying it’s the real thing.
In the poster of questionable origin, Teyonah Parris’s Monica Rambeau is finally embracing her Photon persona from the comics, complete with her own black-and-white superhero garb. Even Brie Larson gets in on the action with a new variation of her original Captain Marvel suit.
Larson’s Captain Marvel arguably wins this round of “let’s arbitrarily get new costumes.” Her new suit isn’t that much different than her original one, and what changes there are are subtle.
Photon’s suit, on the other hand, makes her look like a different Marvel character we’ve yet to see in live-action, Agent Venom.
It’s still better than the garish, weirdly angular ensemble that Ms. Marvel is sporting.
We know from the movie’s trailer that Kamala Khan has her original Ms. Marvel costume at the beginning of the movie, meaning if this poster is legit, something must happen to it over the course of the film.
Who’s distributing all of these new costumes to the three heroines is unclear. The one thing we do know is that it can’t be She-Hulk‘s, Luke Jacobson. He would never make something so ugly.
There is, of course, a reason behind a wardrobe change for Kamala: money. New suit design means new toys and new toys mean more money for Disney‘s stockholders.
Poor Iman Velani most likely has to wear that eyesore so that new Marvel merch can be released prior to The Marvels‘ release.
If you’ve ever wondered why Iron Man had a new suit of armor in each one of his film appearances, this is why.
In fact, most of the Avengers, with the exception of the Hulk, sport a different look in each of their major appearances, so Ms. Marvel getting a fresh look is nothing new.
Tacky design aside, perhaps what makes the choice for Ms. Marvel’s suit so baffling is the fact that there’s no mask. We could debate all day just how much a domino mask like the one worn by Kamala or DC‘s Nightwing actually hides someone’s identity, but in the world of superheroes, it’s just accepted that any mask, no matter how little it covers, is a sufficient disguise.
Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man were pretty much the only two MCU heroes that actually had secret identities.
Thanks to this new suit, it looks like Spidey’s on his own.
