Avengers: Endgame had a lot going on, including time jumps, an attempt to bring back half of all living creatures, and essentially every character to ever appear in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film. So it’s no surprise that will all that happening, a lot of cool stuff got cut from Avengers: Endgame. In a piece of concept art that is making the rounds, it is revealed that there was a scene in which Giant-Man throwing Hulk, who was also throwing Spider-Man.
Ryan Meinerding, who is a character designer, concept artist and Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development drew the concept art and explained the idea. “Spider-Man is about to be thrown by Hulk, and then you pull back to see that Giant-Man is holding Hulk. So it was going to be Giant-Man throws Hulk, and then Hulk throws Spider-Man. I wish they could have fit it in. Presumably, this sequence would have happened during the final fight in Avengers: Endgame.
This isn’t the first great Avengers: Endgame concept art that didn’t come to fruition that has been shared. Jackson Sze, a senior visual development artist at Marvel Studios has also previously shared some of his concepts from Avengers: Endgame. In one idea, Ant-Man would have enlarged several ants and used them to take down Thanos’ Leviathans. Another image shown by Sze showed a giant ant during the final battle, with several heroes riding on top. Doctor Strange can be seen, and Rocket is shooting off his guns, while Groot uses his limbs to create armor for the ant. It seems as though Ant-Man really got the short end of the stick when it came to the final Avengers: Endgame battle.
Ryan Meinderding’s Instagram page is actually a fascinating look into early ideas for many of projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One photo shows original concepts for Captain America fighting Captain America in Avengers: Endgame. There are also many various concepts of Spider-Man, and ideas going back all the way to the original Iron Man.
While we might not have seen these concepts in Avengers: Endgame, there’s nothing to say that we couldn’t see something similar happen in a later Marvel Cinematic Universe film. However, considering this looks to have been part of the book Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame – The Art of the Movie, it seems unlikely that Marvel would put this in a future film, since we’ve already seen the image.
But even without Giant-Man throwing Hulk throwing Spider-Man, Avengers: Endgame still did pretty well for itself. The film made $2.7 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film worldwide. So, maybe Avengers: Endgame didn’t need giant ants and humongous heroes throwing other humongous heroes? As of right now, there are no plans for another giant Avengers team-up, but we will see Spider-Man next in the third Spider-Man scheduled for release on December 17, 2021, while Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is planned for release sometime in 2022. Hopefully, someone will throw one of them in their own adventures.
