Our Aubrey Plaza Marvel Scoop Confirmed
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sometimes it’s tough to think about continuing to scale the stories and characters with more and more powers. But that’s the nature of the comic book story business; things often have to get bigger and bigger. And this is the case with Aubrey Plaza’s character in Agatha All Along. The Giant Freakin Robot exclusive scoop has been confirmed, and Plaza is playing Death in the series, the most powerful character of all.
Aubrey Plaza Is Lady Death
We had this exclusive Aubrey Plaza Marvel scoop over a year ago, back when Agatha All Along was still titled Agatha: Coven of Chaos. At the time, we said that she would be introduced to the series as Death, a character so powerful that the universe somewhat hinges on her own ideas and powers.
While Agatha All Along hasn’t fully confirmed Aubrey Plaza as Lady Death through the first three episodes, there are a number of different signs and hints that it is the case. Saying things like, “You know the rules, you can’t kill me,” or having a “black heart that beats” are big tip offs about where this is all going.
Funko Pop Reveal
But another big piece of this exclusive Aubrey Plaza as Lady Death scoop comes from a rather unlikely place. That’s in the form of a FunkoPop release from Marvel that effectively confirmed the casting.
On the Funko Pop box, it’s stated plane as day who Aubrey Plaza is playing. A simple “Death” right under her character leaves no ambiguity about the situation.
First Starts As Rio Vidal
In Agatha All Along, Aubrey Plaza is first introduced as Rio Vidal, an FBI agent who “helps” to wake Agatha up from the spell she went under at the end of WandaVision.
It doesn’t take long for Plaza to reveal herself, at first, as a fellow witch who is out for revenge. They strikes a deal to avoid an end for Agatha in the first episode, but that truce isn’t going to last for long.
Lady Death In Infinity Gauntlet
The revelation that Aubrey Plaza plays Lady Death in Agatha All Along is an interesting piece of timing for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially considering they are already through the Infinity Stone timeline.
Remember, in the original Infinity Gauntlet comic book series, Thanos is seeking to wipe out half of humanity not out of some cosmic reset, but rather as a gift for Death herself.
In the context of that franchise arc, and run up of stories to Avengers: Endgame, the Thanos story worked just fine.
His motivations were clear and “reasonable” enough to work together a number of different character storylines. So no problem there.
More To Come?
But Aubrey Plaza’s inclusion as Lady Death here in the Agatha All Along story marks for an interesting turn. She’s clearly too powerful to exist only here in the story, so it’s likely we will see her again after the series is over.
She is just too big of a character to have as simply a one-off. Though she’s really also someone who cannot be defeated in any meaningful way. So she’s likely to just be “around” Marvel going forward.
All in all, this is a cool revelation for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And as our scoop has confirmed, we can’t think of a better person to play Lady Death than Aubrey Plaza.
