Aubrey Plaza Joined Marvel For Just One Reason
Aubrey Plaza joined Agatha: Coven of Chaos specifically to work with series star Kathryn Hahn.
Aubrey Plaza has been killing it lately with big roles in shows like The White Lotus, but a Marvel gig is one of the biggest moves any actor working today can make. Plaza is set to appear in the upcoming Disney+ series Agatha: Coven of Chaos and she gave a very particular reason for why she chose to take on the role. Speaking to Backstage’s In the Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast, Plaza said “I think it’s cool that it’s Marvel and all that, but I’m really just interested to work with Kathryn Hahn.”
Before Aubrey Plaza and Kathryn Hahn acted in this Marvel project together, they both appeared on the hit sitcom Parks and Recreation. However, as Plaza points out, they didn’t really get to share a ton of scenes on that show since Plaza was a series regular and Hahn has a recurring guest role. Now it seems like they’ll get plenty of scenes together in Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
To the surprise of no one, Aubrey Plaza isn’t at liberty to discuss the details of her Marvel character at this time. As always, Marvel likes to make sure their actors are keeping things close to the vest, so we’ll just have to speculate and wait and see who she’ll be playing. The plot of the series is also being kept under wraps, but we do know that Emma Caulfield is returning as Dottie aka Sarah Proctor from WandaVision.
Aubrey Plaza is among the new cast members of Marvel’s Agatha: Coven of Chaos, along with Joe Locke, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, and Shasheer Zamata. The last time we saw Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness was in WandaVision when it was revealed that she was actively meddling in Wanda Maximoff’s fake life in Westview. WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer will also be returning as the creator of Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
Interestingly enough, Agatha: Coven of Chaos won’t be the first time that Aubrey Plaza has played a Marvel character, although it will be the first time she’s played one in the MCU. Aubrey Plaza had a twisted and villainous turn as Lenny Busker in Noah Hawley’s underrated Legion series, which aired for three seasons on FX. Although it has nothing to do with the ongoing story of the MCU, it’s well worth checking out if you want to see Plaza in a trippy, antagonistic role.
Aubrey Plaza is also staying plenty busy with non-Marvel-related projects, including her most recent appearance in Season 2 of HBO’s The White Lotus. The third episode of The White Lotus hits HBO today and Plaza’s performance is an early standout in a series that has an absolutely stacked cast. Along with Plaza, The White Lotus Season 2 stars Jennifer Coolidge, F. Murray Abraham, Adam DiMarco, Michael Imperioli, Jon Gries, Tom Hollander, Theo James, Will Sharpe, Haley Lu Richardson, Meghann Fahy, Beatrice Granno, Sabrina Impacciatore, Simona Tabasco, and Leo Woodall.
Although there’s no official date for when we can see Aubrey Plaza make her Marvel debut, we know that Coven of Chaos is set for a 2023 release. As long as it’s not delayed as some other MCU projects have been, we should be able to count on that release window. Stay tuned for more news on Agatha: Coven of Chaos and all other MCU projects.
