Arnold Schwarzenegger Making A Sequel To His Best Comedy?
After largely focusing on action films for the last few decades, Arnold Schwarzenegger is rumored to return for a sequel to one of his best comedies.

In the last few decades, Arnold Schwarzenegger has limited the amount of movies he makes, but the ones he does make are almost always action films. Yet in the late 80 and 90s, Schwarzenegger became quite the comedian, starring in a number of comedy roles like Junior, Jungle All the Way, and Twins. If a new rumor is to be believed, Schwarzenegger might be returning to comedy for the first time in years with a sequel to one of his most beloved comedies.
Gossip entertainment writer Daniel Richtman has said on his Patreon that Arnold Schwarzenegger is working on a sequel to his 1990 comedy Kindergarten Cop. The film, directed by Ghostbuster and Stripes’ Ivan Reitman, made over $200 million, and helped make audiences see Schwarzenegger more than just a former bodybuilder-turned-actor.
Daniel Richtman doesn’t say what his sources for this news are, however, it doesn’t seem like lately, Richtman has honed on to sequel talk hoping something sticks. In recent weeks, Richtman has predicted pretty much every successful film from Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey was in discussions to receive a sequel, so don’t give your hopes up for a Kindergarten Cop sequel with Arnold Schwarzenegger any time soon.
Yet Universal Studios has seemed interested in revitalizing Kindergarten Cop for some time now. In 2016, Universal Studios did make a direct-to-video Kindergarten Cop 2, starring Dolph Lundgren, and there were some rumors a Kindergarten Cop television series might be in the works, although that might have developed into this sequel. Even though a direct-to-video sequel without Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t the best evidence for the future of this franchise, it does at least show that Universal still sees it as a somewhat viable property.
But also outside of a select few franchises, Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn’t really do many sequels to his films. Schwarzenegger did make two Conan movies in the 1980s, and he has made appearances in all three Expendables films. Beyond that, he’s stuck with the Terminator franchise for decades, but that’s really been his only major franchise. Considering he’s stuck to action films for so long, it would be cool to see him return to comedy, especially since his Instagram is usually pretty hilarious, but who knows it he’s even interested in making a sequel to a thirty-year-old comedy.
It’s also not clear if Arnold Schwarzenegger is up for filming another film right now. In October of 2020, Schwarzenegger underwent heart surgery to have an aortic valve replaced. Even though several updates since have shown Schwarzenegger looking in good health, it might be a bit much right now for the actor to get back into a room with screaming children. Although recently Schwarzenegger did crash a Zoom reunion with his Kindergarten Cop cast, so maybe he is ready to reunite with his former co-stars.
Arnold Schwarzenegger sometimes shows that he’s still interested in comedy, appearing in films like 2017’s Killing Gunther, or making funny cameos in other films, but he hasn’t had a leading role in a major studio comedy since 1996’s Jingle All the Way. It would be fantastic to see Schwarzenegger return to big comedies again, but it might be a bit too premature to expect a Kindergarten Cop sequel any time soon.
