Arnold Schwarzenegger Stars In The New #1 Streaming Series
FUBAR, Arnold Schwarzenegger's new action series, is the #1 title on Netflix.
Known around the world for his leading roles in action flicks like the Terminator and Expendables franchises and even his iconic turn as Mr. Freeze in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, Arnold Schwarzenegger delighted his fans this year by landing his first leading role in a series. Now, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the spy comedy drama known as Netflix’s FUBAR is the number one title on the platform, even managing to score higher on the leaderboard than HBO’s Succession and Prime Video’s Citadel.
The news comes almost one month after the premiere of the series. Reports relay the information that the Arnold Schwarzenegger-led series raked in a whopping 1.53 billion minutes of viewing during its first week.
When broken down, this means that the show streamed 25.57 million hours – an impressive number for a brand-new series. With this in mind, it should come as a shock to no one that the title was almost immediately picked up for a second season, with many of the main characters expected to reprise their roles.
In FUBAR, Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Luke Brunner, the father to Monica Barbaro’s Emma Brunner, a man harboring a complicated secret. Unbeknownst to both family members, they both are holding onto the same secret – they’re top CIA agents who have been through every dangerous situation known to man.
After lying to one another for years, when the truth comes out, they realize that they don’t actually know anything about one another at all. But that’s all about to change as a special mission will serve as a bonding experience for the distant relatives.
Along with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Monica Barbaro, the series is stacked to the gills with other big names, including Fortune Feimster, Gabriel Luna, Fabiana Udenio, Milan Carter, Travis Van Winkle, Barbara Eve Harris, Jay Baruchel, Aparna Brielle, and Andy Buckley with an ensemble filled out by Devon Bostick, Scott Thompson, Tom Arnold, and more.
The eight-episode first season dropped all at once on May 25 and, as indicated in the viewership numbers, was a major hit among fans. Much of the storyline relies on the performances of its main cast members, with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s attachment to the project being one of the main driving forces behind the show’s success.
Over the years, Arnold Schwarzenegger has carried over his acting chops from the big to the small screen but never quite like this. He’s appeared in one-off episodes of fan-favorite shows like Two and a Half Men, Tales from the Crypt, and Little Demon but has never appeared in a scripted series in a leading capacity. Getting the action star to sign his name on the contract for FUBAR was undoubtedly a big win for Netflix and a move that helped bolster the hype surrounding the series.
Making the most of having the Terminator himself in a brand new series on their streamer, shortly after the release of FUBAR, Netflix dropped a docuseries surrounding the life of the legend. Titled Arnold, the three-part production pulled back the curtain on the wild and incredible life of the bodybuilder turned actor turned politician, giving Arnold Schwarzenegger the controls on how his life story would be told in documentary form.
Next up, Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to appear in David Sandberg’s Kung Fury 2, making his debut in the franchise that was started back in 2015’s Kung Fury. The martial arts comedy flick will also see Sandberg step into a leading role alongside Schwarzenegger, Michael Fassbender, Alexandra Shipp, Jorma Taccone, and Ralf Moeller. Transporting audiences back in time to 1985, the story will follow the titular detective on a new adventure of fists and fury.
As for FUBAR, beyond renewing it for a second season, Netflix hasn’t given audiences any further information about when and what we can expect from the next chapter. With Arnold Schwarzenegger and Monica Barbaro’s father-daughter duo finally coming clean with one another and joining forces to kick butt around the world, the only thing that seems certain is that they’ll be back in action on another mission.
For now, stay tuned to Giant Freakin Robot for all things FUBAR, Kung Fury 2, and any other titles that Arnold Schwarzenegger may be involved with in the upcoming weeks and months.
