The long-awaited trailer for Death on the Nile has finally dropped. The new trailer dropped less than two months before the film’s February 11, 2022 release date. However, many wondered how this film would continue after the strong allegations against Armie Hammer. The star made headlines in 2021 for allegedly being a cannibal who was also accused of rape. Even more interesting is the fact that Disney purchased 20th Century Studios and it had been announced that Hammer’s part would not be reshot. How did the studio get away from the potential controversy of the first trailer? By expertly editing Hammer mostly out of the second trailer. Well played PR team.

Regardless of the very serious and odd charges being cast on Armie Hammer, Death on the Nile looks to be just as exciting as the first installment, Murder on the Orient Express. Kenneth Branagh has returned as the peculiar detective, Hercule Poirot, and Barangh will be helming this sequel as well. Both films are based on novels written by Agatha Christie. The trailer shows the exciting brand-new cast of characters thrust into the path of Poirot’s Egyptian vacation.
One of the best focal points for the new trailer lands squarely on the shoulders of superstar Gal Gadot. It would appear that Branagh is attempting to showcase his detective and noir skills even more by adding Gadot as the would-be femme fatale of the new film. Gadot being in a film with Armie Hammer might help the actor recoup some of his reputation. That’s likely not going to be the case, but it’s still interesting to see Disney not pulling this film completely.
Poirot’s vacation in Egypt was part of the ending of the first film, so it is nice to see them picking up right where they left off. There is just something fantastic about good continuity. Kenneth Branagh and Tom Batemen are the only two returning actors from the film. The new cast includes Annette Bening, Gal Gadot, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders, and Letitia Wright. All of whom will be thrust into a new “whodunit.”
Armie Hammer has been losing acting gigs since his investigation into the crimes of rape and sexual cannibalism by the LAPD. Though these allegations are serious, it would appear that his part in the film was too crucial for him to be cut out, or for another actor to step in. Disney and 20th Century Studios are going along with the project, and the hope is that his scandal will not sink the new film. In this “cancel culture” day and age, releasing this film with Hammer still in it is sure to ruffle some feathers.
Death On The Nile is set to release in theaters on February 11, 2021. The new chapter in the Hercule Poirot murder mystery looks to be just as fun and interesting as its predecessor, even with Armie Hammer still holding on to his role.
