The exact release date for Netflix’s Arcane Season 1 will be announced at a later date, but the plans include a range of editions, from digital formats to premium physical editions. The premium edition will feature an exclusive 4K version, available only through the home entertainment release. In a press release, GKIDS founder and CEO Eric Beckman expressed his enthusiasm for the project.

GKIDS

“GKIDS is thrilled to be partnering with our friends at Riot to bring the global hit series Arcane [Season 1]to fans worldwide,” Beckman said. “We are monster fans of the series, and our team is having a blast collaborating with Riot and Fortiche to put together an amazing package for the fans.”

He also explained how the project came to life on the lawn by the lake at Annecy, so GKIDS is happy to announce it.

The impending release of Arcane Season 1follows a series of recent acquisitions by GKIDS, which includes anime series Dan Da Dan, Studio Ghibli’s The Boy and the Heron, and the critically acclaimed Mars Express.

Alongside these acquisitions, GKIDS now holds the video rights to Arcane Season 2, which recently received its first poster ahead of its return to Netflix.

The Story

Created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee, Netflix’s Arcane Season 1 is set in the universe of Riot’s popular video game League of Legends.

The story primarily focuses on the origins of sisters Vi and Jinx, who find themselves in the middle of a developing conflict between the utopian city of Piltover and the oppressed underbelly of Zaun.

Netflix’s Arcane Season 1 combines a spectacular mix of 2D and 3D animation, delivering a visually stunning experience with beautifully animated fight scenes.

The series also features a CW-hip sensibility, a theme song by popular indie band Imagine Dragons, and a soundtrack that includes artists like BONES UK and Pusha T.

Accolades

On November 6, 2021, Riot Games premiered the first episode of Arcane Season 1 on Twitch, allowing some content creators to co-stream the first three episodes with permission.

This marked a first for a Netflix series. Viewers could earn in-game drops during the premiere, including items for League of Legends, Wild Rift, Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra, and Valorant.

The event attracted 1.8 million concurrent viewers on Twitch. After its debut, Arcane Season 1 received critical acclaim for its engaging story and stunning animation, making it a standout in video game adaptations. The series won four Primetime Emmy Awards and nine Annie Awards while frequently appearing on lists of the best Netflix original animated television shows.

Fans Have A Lot To Look Forward To

Following the success of Arcane Season 1, Netflix renewed the series for a second season, which is expected to hit screens in November 2024.

The plot is still under wraps, but the story is expected to pick up after the events of the first season, with cast members Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, and Katie Leung reprising their roles as Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn, respectively.

With the upcoming 4K Blu-ray release of Netflix’s Arcane Season 1, fans will finally have the opportunity to own a piece of this groundbreaking series. T

he collaboration between GKIDS, Riot Games, and Fortiche promises to deliver a high-quality physical media experience that will be a must-have for any collector or enthusiast of the series.
