Exclusive: Anya Taylor-Joy Wanted For Black Cat Movie
Anya Taylor-Joy is one of the hottest actresses working in Hollywood today, and Giant Freakin Robot has learned that she is being eyed to lead a Black Cat solo movie.

Anya Taylor-Joy is one of the hottest working actresses in the cinematic landscape today. From roles in the hit Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit to taking over Charlize Theron’s role as Furiosa in the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, she is easily one of Hollywood’s rising starlets. It should come as no surprise that she is being considered for any number of high-profile roles from big studios, but we here at Giant Freakin Robot have gotten word from one of our trusted and proven insider sources that she is being eyed to play one of the most beloved heroines in the Marvel canon: Black Cat.
Our source said that Sony wants Anya Taylor-Joy to star as Felicia Hardy a.k.a. Black Cat in a solo movie for the character. With the huge success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it looks like Sony wants to get as many of their Spider-Man adjacent properties off the ground as soon as possible. They have been trying to get a Black Cat project to the big screen for many years now, including a team-up film with Silver Sable. Nothing has ever been able to manifest, but with the Spider-Man universe riding high, it looks like the wheels are really starting to move.
And Anya Taylor-Joy would certainly cut a fantastic image as Black Cat. Her piercing visage alone is enough to seal the deal. It only helps that she is a wonderful actress that has proven her capabilities in a number of different roles. She has even had experience in the realm of superhero/comic book movies when she starred as Magik in the infamous film The New Mutants, and she came out the other end of that movie as one of its brighter spots. She definitely has the chops to headline her own superhero endeavor, and a Black Cat movie could be the opportunity to give her the chance.
If Anya Taylor-Joy does sign on the dotted line for a Black Cat feature film, it will be interesting to see how it pans out for the character. Felicia Hardy is often introduced as a cat burglar and tenuous ally to Spider-Man. The two have also been romantically entangled as well. However, would Marvel allow for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man to appear in the movie in a substantial way? Or would Black Cat appear in another Spider-Man film first before getting her own solo adventure? Sony is clearly dedicated to building out as many of the Spider-Man characters they own the exclusive rights to. It’s very likely that they would go the Venom and Morbius route and give her a completely isolated story before tying her into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s overarching canon.
Hopefully, we can get official confirmation from Sony about Anya Taylor-Joy taking on the Black Cat role very soon. Until then, she will next be seen in The Northman which recently showcased a stunning trailer. She will also be voicing Princess Peach in the upcoming animated Mario movie. And, as previously stated, she will be playing Furiosa in the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel.
