The Most Anticipated Season 2 Of Sci-Fi Wraps Filming
Severance Season 2 has concluded filming and is gearing up to enter post-production before finally making its long-awaited premiere. The Apple TV+ original series aired its season 1 finale over two years ago, and has since gone on to become a major hit for sci-fi fans. We won’t spoil the first season here, but the final moments of the last episode served as a major cliffhanger, leaving fans at home completely puzzled about the future of the series.
What Is Severance About?
For those not in the know, Severance follows a group of employees who have undergone a controversial procedure that separates aspects of their consciousness into work lives and home lives. The result allows the “outies” to experience the world without the mental demands of working a full 9-5 job, while the “innies” are effectively trapped inside the office at all times, as far as they can tell. Severance Season 2 is expected to pick up right where the first season left off, with multiple parties investigating this sci-fi phenomenon and its psychological impact on the employees.
Season 2 Hit With Delays
Now that Severance Season 2 has wrapped filming, fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Production for the series was continuously halted with behind-the-scenes issues, which had some fans in a state of panic, fearing the project would never properly materialize. Just as the COVID-19 pandemic halted production of the first season, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023 caused massive delays to Severance‘s Season 2 production schedule.
The Show Faced Multiple Issues
Furthermore, rumors of creative disagreements from producers had some insiders concerned that the show would be dropped mid-production, and enter into a state of development hell. Luckily, those in charge of Severance Season 2 seem to have navigated the tumultuous waters of show business and emerged victorious. Filming resumed in January of 2024, and according to series lead Adam Scott, it just concluded earlier this past week.
The Returning Cast
Scott took a moment to sit down with People to discuss some of the work he’s done on Severance Season 2 and praise his collaborators, such as Ben Stiller. Stiller, who serves as an executive producer on Severance, directed 6 of the 9 existing episodes of the series, and is signed on to direct an untold number of outings in the upcoming season. The show stars Adam Scott in the lead role, alongside a small ensemble of terrific performers such as Britt Lower, John Turturro, Michael Chernus, Patricia Arquette, Christopher Walken, and Fallout‘s Zach Cherry.
Per Scott’s interview, each of these leading stars are on pace to return in Severance season 2, with some fresh new faces rounding out the cast. Specifically, the series lead name-dropped a young up-and-comer named Sarah Bach, who Scott describes as “a really exciting young actor.” Adam Scott praised Ben Stiller for bringing this young woman and others onto the team, likening his ability to cast compelling actors in the right roles to a superpower.
Catch Up On Season 1
While there’s still no word on when Severance Season 2 will finally be available to view on Apple TV+, release details are sure to come out soon. In the meantime, fans have the perfect opportunity to binge through the first season again as a brief refresher as the marketing team for Severance mobilizes to prepare a trailer.
